toadwbg
Topic says it all. The Academy instructions are wrong- calling out black! Thanks in advance.
SoarinSukhoi
Personally I'd ask on an actual armor forum. They would know the base shade of paint it came out of the factory with and how to weather it to what it would actually look like. The desert sun isn't too kind on paint. I imagine filters would work well.
toadwbg
Did some Googling and found this: http://www.cybermodeler.com/armor/humvee/m1025_profile01.shtml Looks like Tamiya XF-57 is good for FS33446 Desert Tan. However looks like US Marine Sand FS33711 might be another choice, not sure which to use as a starting point.
Helo_Dud
Using just the Tamiya Buff is to dark. US Marine Sand FS33711 is a good color however I like mixing Tamiya's XF-57 Buff with XF-55 Deck Tan. I mix one bottle to one bottle (50/50). Then I'll drop in a one or two (three)of Tamiya's flat white into what's left in the airbrush cup and hit the high point to get that faded/bleached look. It's a good match, matched it up to a Humvee. shadoweng
I just tried about 50/50 Tamiya buff XF-57 and Dark Yellow Xf-60. Looked pretty close to me, however I am going to try Joes Recipe as well. Jeremy
