Shawn M
Hi Gang! My first contribution to the GB will be a Revell 1/24 Scale 427 Shelby Cobra, done in the Essex Wire livery. Chassis CSX3009 affectionately known as "ollie the cobra", this particular car had a tendency to spit flame from its carb. Unlike "most" of the later 427 Racers, Ollie started out as a Street car and then was thrown into the heat of battle in USRRC and SCCA racing. This particular chassis is known to be "the wining'est cobra of all times", although from my reading I believe that goes to a 289 chassis car. SO far not much to show in the line of progress. I've been sanding my tail off to remove the massive mold lines, seams and (IMHO) poor molding. I've only assembled the rear diff up to now. Pics and sanding dust to come! Dirkpitt289
The AC Cobra is one of my all time favorite cars. I look forward to seeing your build
Bigasshammm
I plan to own one of the kit cars before I die. I have no problem with a 40k dollar replica of an amazing car.
Shawn M
finally finished the chassis clean up last night and the repairs needed from the boxing. Attached the rear diff to the chassis and am now elbow deep in spring clean up and further parts cleaning. Its all white plastic, so you'd never bee able to see what it is Im actually doing. But if you own this kit, you'll know what Im talking about.

Bigasshammm
Dude leave the body like that. Wow. Lol. Looking good
Par429
Hey- Looks great! Nice paint work. I'd be interested in a description of how you go about the chassis weathering. And I agree the body looks really great in natural metal. Phil
Shawn M
leaving the body aluminum would not be correct per GB rules...but...its up to the other mods ;) Chassis weathering, while not complete here is whats done thus far. Base coat flat black gunmetal streaked downward from the top of the frame rails (body side towards ground) dry brushing of dark grey to pick out details and break up the black aluminum dry brushing and speckling for road wear, gravel damage etc berol silver pencil to highlight edges and create scrapes, jack stand damage etc next up is washes of tans, browns, blacks for dirt build up then a final smattering of some rust (VERY light rust)
Bigasshammm
I know I know it wouldn't pertain to the rules. I want to get the new LFA kit and paint it a bright Alclad chrome. Rust on a Shelby? Blasphemy.
Andy70
Fantastic work so far - the weathering is very realistic. Looking great!!!
Shawn M
thank you! Rust on the frame and headers, the body is all aluminum so maybe a bit of oxidation.

2qwik4u
Beautiful job. I love the weathering on the chassis and the engine. -Dave
Shawn M
thanks Dave, the photos dont show the colors very well on the chassis shots...I'll have to figure out how to capture them.
