MaRiO FDZ
Hi fellas After my 777, I'm still in an airliner groove, so after a medium dificult kit I go to a difficult kit: Airfix's DC-10-30 1:144 I starte this kit sometime before final construction of the 777, but since I have contact with my models only during weekdays, progress is SLOOOW. I actually just touched it today after almost a month in the bench. Anyway, this kit requires certain corrections have to be done to this kit to make it look right. The most important one is the Engine pylons sit waaay too low. You have to cut 1/8 of an Inch from them to make them look right. Also, windows are too low, they must be filled. The middle gear has no gear bay, so I had to scratch build that. I also used blue tac to fill the MLG bays under the wings, and used a mix-a-putty to fill the nose for weight and shape it into form. Anyways, picture time. Le Decals await. Le DC-10. The No.2 engine was painted, assembled. I stuffed some tissue paper down the duct, wet it so it would compress more, and added filler to the seam. After some sanding and priming to check, it looks ok. Same thing was done for the engines. Le pylons cut. Again, 1/8 of an Inch was trimmed out , and some tenax or some other heavy glue will be necesary for the attatchment... During this process, the wings, horizontal and vertical stabilizers were scribed according to reference The Middle gear area cut open. I shall scratch build the compartment to give it some depth. It will be very hard to see, anyway. Le DC-10 today. Ran out of CA, so back in Holding pattern. Some minor details to the Central gear bay are missing. Le middle bay. Le Engines. Next in line, paint the white (Tamiya) on the engines, and aluminum for everything else... then to see how to attatch it to the wings... hmm I shall continue the kit next week. Progress pics will come. Thanks for le comments. Take Care Edited July 22, 2012 by MaRiO FDZ
MaRiO FDZ
Hi Fellas So After after 3 weeks I can Finally do some work and update this thing... pretty basic update, Tamiya TS-26 Pure White for the Fuselage... Letting it cure for now, tomorrow I have little time, so some Masking will be applied for the first color, the Gray underside that runs along the aircraft. After that, the purple, and finally, the Aluminum. Here's some size for comparison with a DC-6, an A319... Aaaand a 777. :) All 1:144 Scale!! Take Care!!
GreyGhost
Looking good, Mario ... Smoove ... I love those Fed Ex DC-10s ... -Gregg

MaRiO FDZ
Thank you guys Update. Doing a color check, I realized Testor's Model Master Ultraviolet Pearl is a match to FedEx purple... but thing is, when I applied it, it turned out with small glitter. Its a car paint, and it shows. So doing some research, About 3 or 4 people suggested Tamiya Purple. I wasn't sure it would work, but it actually did splendidly. Just an under layer of Tamiya dark blue and voilá! Anyways, the With the purple on, it is now time too let it cure, and next up touch ups before the Future coat. The wings go Aluminum, so those are last. Thanks for the comments. MaRiO FDZ
Update Future Coat on... waiting for it to dry to start masking for the aluminum color: Wings, Horizontal Stabilizers, engine intake rings and belly. Engines Dry Fitted for Picture, they are also waiting their future coat. Thanks for your comments. Take Care
vivkulan
Hello, So far looks awesome. How did you go about masking the profile in the tail section? I have a 767 waiting to be built in Aeroflot scheme. It has the same challenge. So wanted to know
MaRiO FDZ
Hi I put the Tape on the upper part of the plane, flat, and then start bending it around the fuselage so it looks like a straight line when viewed from the side. The hard part on this particular build is the No. 2 Engine, which makes this process be repeated twice (and little space between the engine intake and the fuselage. Thanks for your comments Take Care
MaRiO FDZ
Another Update, Engines glued... masked for the Aluminum ring. Next up, to fill and sand the engine pylon/wing seam, while the rest of the future cures... after that, it is masking again all the white and purple for the black undercoat, then the aluminum... And a pic to remind of things to come... Take Care
