prophet
I've started to build Revell's 1/144 German U-Boot Type VII C. I guess it would look a lot better with the flood valves opened, not just imitated. The smaller round ones are no problem, I simply drilled them out. But I am a bit at a loss with the oval shaped ones; any advice on how to drill/cut them open?

When I built my 1/72 scale U-boat I used a soldering iron to push them in. You get some plastic oozing out around the PE part but it can be trimmed up well with a knife or small chisel. The PE valve was stuck down good too.
rokket
The grind and thin is a great method. There's some good info at AMP forum on Type VIICs: http://models.rokket.biz/index.php?board=6.0 and my old build (1:72 but much applies): http://www.rokket.biz/models/modelsweb/rokket/u557/finished.shtml
