factacnapalm
Hallo Everyone This is my build tread, I have bought AFV club's F-5E The plan is to make it from the IRIAF I will use the Hi Decals War load will be centerline fueltank, wingtip AIM 9J and 4 BLU 27 napalm tanks I bought wolfpack's resin F-5E seats, But I had not bothered to check out what seats the Iranian F-5 used during the war Diego was a great help, and told me that I had to use the orginal early Northrop seat , well doom on me for not duing my research. The kit seat did not look right to me, but thankfully Diego pointed me in the right direction, the Korean firm KASL makes a cockpit set with an early resin seats..... In the mean time all I could do was to start on the fuselage and the underwing store Here are a few progres pics The AIM 9 and fuel tank are from the kit, the BLU 27 are from Legend, I have choosen to make the BLU 27 without tail fins The weapons before paint Here with the first coat of paint, plus a few fuselage bits that I have worked on More to come Bo Edited January 31, 2012 by factacnapalm

factacnapalm
I got the KASL cockpit set today, thats pretty good service by hobby easy I am not that impressed, the resin things look very nice, the control stick is a big improvement on the kit part, but the replacement front upper part of the cockpit (part 6) are a load of trouble, I broke off the outer 2 mm when loosing it from the sheet resin I will glue it together and fill it up, then we will see. The worst thing about the KASL kit is the instruction manual.... lousy.. but beggers cannot be choosers Here are the seat and some of the cockpit parts after a coat of FS 36231 from Modelmaster 1740 Now its time for painting details on the cockpit parts Bo

factacnapalm
Hallo again I got some more done on this kit A bit of a jump I am afraid The whole kit was put together and airbrushed Xtracolour FS 10400, after it had dryed, I went over it with Alclad's micro mesh I also masked the canopy, painted the rubber seal around the frame with Humbrol 71, after drying, I unmasked and put on the outer mask, the canopy was then painted FS 10400/FS 34079, again matt varnish was put on after drying The pylons where painted FS 36622 from Modelmaster, treated with glosscote and then washed with Flory models dark wash Bo Thank you I got a bit more done on the cockpit, not quite there yet Bo Edited October 11, 2014 by factacnapalm
factacnapalm
A long overdue update I was abel to paint on 34079 and later a home brewed humbrol mix 30140. I was afterwards unhappy with Xtracolor 30400, it did not look right, so I decided to remove the upper paint and repaint. In the mean time White Ensign Models had come out with Fs 30140 and Fs 30400, so I got hold af them and repainted the model with them I was much more happy with the result Tail broke off during transport to a builders meeting, need to fix I need to do a few touch up, then gloss varnish Bo Edited October 11, 2014 by factacnapalm
factacnapalm
A long overdue progress, The gloss varnish vant on fine, I used Akan gloss Lacquer varnish, with a drop of hardner. A few hours later disaster struck, a certain impatient modelbuilder could not wait to put on promodeller wash. a hint, newer do this on "fresh" but dry varnish, it stuck like hell, and I had to use IPA to get most of it of. K5054NZ
Very nicely done, Bo! The IRIAF scheme is rather attractive on an F-5 and you've captured it nicely.
