Alternative 4
Thanks for the further pics He has a look on his face in every photo that reminds me of a character from Little Britain. I can just imagine his voice sounding like a disinterested Englishman when he says "what's that?", barely moving a finger to point.
VFA-103guy
What a great set of photos!! I love the MiG-29 and while the paint scheme on this one is ugly, I still find it interesting. Edited February 4, 2012 by VFA-103guy
Supertom
Oh yeah, I saw the pics earlier and was about to post a link when Alternative4 beat me to it. Does anyone here read Korean? I'm curious as to what it says on the boxes. Maybe from there a guess could me made as to what's on the one on the right that's getting the glint of sunlight.
KursadA
The text in the red boxes is almost certainly political messages and slogans. I remember reading several blog posts where native speakers deciphered at least portions of it.
Alternative 4
Su-25's in the background of the first pic?
LanceR21
Su-25's in the background of the first pic? Yes, check this out... Line of North Korean Su-25 and MiG-29 surrounded by wood ( 2 are on runway, probably painted in green like one on the picture ) Frogfoot's are black... or green to? http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=39.40401,125.900434&spn=0.003838,0.010568&t=h&z=17 Cheers, Nenad Edited February 6, 2012 by LanceR21

I see what look to be discarded Migs (including Mig 21's)here around the outside of the base and many more Su-25's. I would hate to think what someone would think when they looked at Sat images of New Zealand bases! Edited February 6, 2012 by Alternative
Keith Diamond
Nice find, especially considering how threads have popped up occasionally in the past seeking photos.

I would hate to think what someone would think when they looked at Sat images of New Zealand bases! Both MiG-29As and the Su-25's serve in the same air regement. I also noticed either a MiG-23/27 or Su-22 on the north side among the MiG-21's. There are also some MiG-17's and either MiG-15 or UTIs under the tarps in the wooded area. I was wondering about the MiG-29 Fulcrum C's that had a green/brown over blue scheme that were photographed a while back?
afspret
Looks like the two goones on either side of the Dear Great Leader are holding him up. Could it be he's to ill (or drugged/drunk) to stand on his own?

Aggressor Supporter
Wow! That's a super rare picture! That's the first time I've seen one so clearly. I agree. Clearest one I have ever seen. BigFoot
Hello fellow modellers, I don't usually build aircraft, but I fell in love with this North Korean paint scheme. As far as I understand, and please advise me if I'm wrong, the Italeri kit is the most suitable for this aircraft. Also, is it known already if someone is going to produce decals of this Mig? Hey Bigfoot, If you are talking about 1/72 scale, yes, the Italeri kit is the best MiG-29 Fulcrum A kit currently out. It has also been reboxed by Bilek, Tamiya (for the Asian market) and Testors (they also reboxed the Fujimi kit, the Italeri boxing is # 661). If you are thinking of i/48 scale, I believe that the best kit is the Academy kit (one of the more knowledgable 1/48 scale builders would know more). I'm not aware of anyone planning to release any decals for these jets at this point, but Repli-Scale released a generic set of decals for MiG-29's that included North Korean markings. KursadA
I am trying to find out what the slogans in the large boxes are saying. I have everything else drawn up, and will announce decals literally the minute the mystery of the boxes are solved. Edited February 8, 2012 by KursadA

JackMan
Hey Bigfoot, ... Testors (they also reboxed the Fujimi kit, the Italeri boxing is # 661). If you are thinking of i/48 scale, I believe that the best kit is the Academy kit (one of the more knowledgable 1/48 scale builders would know more). Please avoid the Fujimi & Hasegawa kits at all cost. They are grossly inaccurate. The best at the moment are Italeri (or the Tamiya reboxing of it). I've heard the ICM kit is also good but it's for a later variant of the Mig-29.

Yeah, the worst 1/72 scale MiG-29 kits are the Fujimi, Revell and ESCI kits. The Hasegawa isn't as bad, but isn't as accurate as the Italari kit. I also understand that the Heller kit is OK, but Italeri is the best, and easily availiable. The ICM kit is the best for a MiG-29 "9-13" Fulcrum C, which is an improvement of the Condor kit. But unlike the ICM kit, the Condor kit comes with AS-17 "Krypton", AS-14 "Kledge" and AA-12 "Adder" missiles. BTW, the earlier white ICM MiG-29 "9-13" kits ARE the Condor kit (shape is OK, but it has raised panel lines, not as detailed and no AS-14, AS-17 and AA-12 missiles). The newer boxings with the black outline and the new red boxings have the ICM mold kit. Edited February 8, 2012 by Johnopfor
crlandrum
We have a South Korean exchange officer where I work. I have asked him for a translation. Because the photos come from video capture, he is having trouble discerning the characters. I will report on the results. Clearer photos would help if they can be found. Jennings
Sacred fecal matter! Long live the Dear Stoned Looking Son of the Dear Leader!! Great pics!! Now, if somebody could come up with a similar photo of one of their Mi-26 Halos, I'd give major parts of my anatomy to have it. I don't want to wait for the regime to fall and the airplane enthusiast tours to start! :)
