Just in time for the 2012 Daytona 500 here are some pictures of my build of Mario's 1967 Daytona 500 winning Fairlane, as it nears completion.

Here's a shot of the body:

Chassis is a slightly narrowed Polar Lights Talladega. Note rear-end cooler lines and pump.

Headers were fabricated from solder.

Thanks for all the positive comments! I had collected the parts for this build for the last 10 years or so until I finally decided to build it. Here's a list of the basics:

AMT/Ertl 1966 427 Fairlane

Polar Lights Talladega

The Modelhaus 1967 Ford Fairlane original issue AMT

Hoods

Plastic Performance Products

HM10 60's-70's Holman Moody 10" wheels

1965-69 Firestone Tires

Slixx Decals

1967 Andretti Fairlane

Detail Master

Hood Pin Kit 1:24/1:25 scale

I used solder and plastic sheet to build up the headers.

Evergreen Plastic sheet was used to make various interior and engine compartment panels.

The Polar Lights frame was narrowed to fit the AMT body.

The engine parts came from the Polar Lights kit and also from the AMT 427 Fairlane and 1960 Starliner kits.

The rear bumper fairings were made from the foil from a wine bottle bent to shape.
