Giovanni
Hello, this week-end I had some time to convert the wheel of the kit (on the left, which is good for the MF version) to the type in use on the mig-21bis (on the right, that I'm going to represent on the diorama). Later I'll have some copies casted in resin. Cheers! Giovanni Edited September 10, 2017 by Giovanni
Giovanni
Proud of the new wheels! Here's the original: Cheers! Giovanni Edited September 10, 2017 by Giovanni
FlyingLow
Proud of the new wheels! Rightfully so! I admire your skills and your patience even more.
Giovanni
Thank You FlyingLow, now the front leg: I've divided the wheel from the leg and added brake wires. I remind that's in 1\144!! Cheers Giovanni Edited September 10, 2017 by Giovanni
Giovanni
Hello! A pile of canvas complete the scene. They were used to protect the airframe while weather-beaten. I made them with aluminium foil and some vinilic glue to give more volume. I've placed all the elements of the diorama in their right places and glued them. Giovanni
Hope some still remember this new......old project! Anyway after some...years??!! I'm posting some new pictures of the mig. Tonight I've been working at the head up display; you can see it in position for a fit test. I spent some time recently on the intake lip to gain the lil much larger and ogival shape of the "bis",the kit itself representing correctly an "MF" intake lip. I also added the typical bulge at the right side of the dorsal spine near the vertical fin root. The wheel wells are almost complete missing just some extra interior detail. Note also that my mig will show a drooped airbrake so some hours had been spent on digging and detailing the interior. Good night my friends! A-10 LOADER
I just scrolled thru all 3 pages of this incredable project, WOW !! This is not my cup of tea, I have no interest in foreign aircraft BUT, I can appreciate your talent, creativity and, vision for this project. This would be difficult to pull off in 1/72nd or 1/48th scale let alone at 1/144th. I applaude you sir on an outstanding job and I anxiously await the completion of this project. Giovanni
Hello Guys, thank you for nice comments Tonight the head up display is finally ready! I've added the gun camera which is usually fitted in the mig-21 cockpit (see the original on the last picture). A challange to build in this scale! See you soon Giovanni Edited September 10, 2017 by Giovanni

Giovanni
Hello modelers! some decaling inside the canopy tonight! Decals from scratch obviously... Now working on the yellow-pink sealant. Let's see later... Bye Thank You for following this Giovanni Edited September 10, 2017 by Giovanni
Giovanni
After a brief look at my references I opted for a black seal. I'm going to add the yellow/pink sealant just on the outside but I must paint the mig exterior first. Let's see. I think the interior is ok. Just some matt transparent to set all and give a more realistic appearance. Now time to rest! Bye Thank you Giovanni Edited September 10, 2017 by Giovanni
Kingoalie
Great detail work on the canopy! Did you use strips of decals for the canopy seal?
ya-gabor
After a brief look at my references I opted for a black seal. I'm going to add the yellow/pink sealant just on the outside Hi Giovanni, Yes, on some aircraft a black seal was used. I have no idea what the reason for this was. On earlier types like the MiG-19 and MiG-21F-13, MiG-21PF a black sealing material was used and it is possible that in some places (countries and refurbrishing companies) they still had some of it and it was used. As to the GDR examples . . . Nice work on this bird! Excellent canopy! WOW Best regards Gabor
Giovanni
Hi! To Kingoalie, yes to reproduce the sealant I used strips of black decals from spare "numbers & letters" cutting them with a razor blade. Yesterday evening I gave some attentions to the gsh-23 gun pod adding some vents and drilling the muzzle mouth. Next step: adding the "V" shaped shells ejectors. Strangely Eduard does not provide them neither in he kit nor in the PE set (Brengun does, but I won't use these). Think I'll get them from scratch. Thank you for your messages and for following this! Giovanni
Hello! I've been busy with the pylons recently and by today one is almost complete. This is a scratch-built APU-13 launcher under the improved kit pylon. Now I'm working on an APU R-3R, that in the picture being its pylon. The idea is to cast a resin copy of each later. The mig is going to be represented armed with two R-13 missiles in the inner pylons and two R-3R in the outer. Thank You for attention. Giovanni
Dear collegues! I'll show you the last updates: First a picture of the inner part of the exhaust: These are the two kind of missile rails: That have been prepared as masters for resin casting: And these are the copies: A dry fit picture: And to conclude a comparative picture: I hope you enjoy this building! In the last days I painted the dielectric panels and nose cone in green. Next step is going to be the outer exhaust area. Then masking and start painting the underside areas.
