toadwbg
Having just finished the Academy M1511 Humvee, I had so much fun I wanted to do another Humvee. This time i'd thought I would be a bit creative and do a bit of a "what if" using the simpler but still excellent Tamiya kit, which represents an older variant- perfect for my plans. You see, I know I'll never own a real Humvee so I figure a model will as close as I'll get :). Why not have some fun and make my fantasy hunting Humvee! Hunting, hiking, biking and camping are my other hobbies and I thought this would be a fun way to tie them all together. Everything just falls together like butter and in 3-hours I was ready to paint: Edited April 22, 2012 by toadwbg
toadwbg
I'm using all Tamiya paints and trying to use up some surplus colors: Dark Yellow for the base exterior NATO black for the undercarriage: Build tip: assemble and liquid glue (Tenax) as much of the undercarriage as you can ahead of painting. No problem getting the black into all the nooks and crannies. Edited April 22, 2012 by toadwbg
toadwbg
Camo: I want to do an outdoors hunting camo. I don't want to try and reproduce Realtree Hardwoods or Mossy Oak but rather something resembling a custom paint job you would see on a aluminum flat-bottomed duck boat. You know, the kind a duck hunter painted with a spray can in his garage or back yard. There are several examples where I live LOL! After doing a little research and going thru my Tamiya paint bottles in the stash, I settled on something resembling WW2 Panzer "spot" camo. I did a little testing on the upper hatch here: I like the direction! Need to refine it a little and work on getting some cleaner spots- too much overspray. I think that's due to my old and worn/bent airbrush needle and tips. I got some brand spankin new ones I'll swap in and give another go.
toadwbg
Had to sneak back into the man-cave after I put the kids to sleep to lay down the camo! Here it goes: First, XF-58 Olive Green Than, XF-64 Red Brown I'm sorta liking it
