But I did some work and I think the ideas might help other working on this excellent and popular kit. The kit comes with a hollow helicopter hanger, but it does not have detail. It isn't too hard to make the overall shape, but the finish is really tricky. Because the ship is totally aluminum, it has a shiny protective covering everywhere to shield the structure from the melting heat of fire. I tried a number of techniques to simulate what looks like crumpled aluminum foil. It turned out the best thing was crumpled aluminum foil. I pre-crumpled it, flattened it out a bit, cut it out in the right shapes, and glued them in with epoxy. It isn't easy to photograph, but here is what it looks like now.
