Preshading an F-14

Recommended Posts

Possibly a dumb question, but it's my first time using the technique.....

Recommended color to use? Do I use a different color top and bottom?

I'll be painting my high-viz Tomcat this weekend, and was wondering if I use a different color to highlight the underside of the fuselage (white) vs the topside (lt gull gray).

Thanks for looking.

Yeah, I was wondering about the underside too.

Especially white. Wouldn't black be a bit to dark? And

why would you have faded undersides since the

sun doesn't shine under there....? Or are we just talking

about highlighting the panel lines?

If you like you could use a dark or mid grey for the underside. If you are getting used to the technique it is easiest to use black and like Habu says, just blend it in afterwards to a greater extent. Once you get used to that experiment with some greys.

When I first used preshading I was a bit scared to ruin a really good looking Tomcat - however it's a piece of cake... I used flat black and did what other guys here said and voila... My F-14 will be published on the ARC next week...
