Not a bad looking diorama

Recommended Posts

MSNBC had an article about a pretty sweet model of bin Laden's compound. Apparently the Pentagon used it to plan the raid. Whoever did it did a great job:

In the model note it mention that it´s 1 inch per 7 feet so that means 1/84 scale a bad choice (because 1 inch per 6 feet it's 1/72 scale model) or maybe the main issue was the size of the table or the door

My point here that another kind of modeler could also included figures (there a broad selection of terrorists, armed arabs, special forces, vehicles, choppers and so over) in order to be used to brief troops and also allow so General/Admiral to play with soldiers

Best modeling

Haha you're right, I would have done so as well!

I wonder whether they contract that kind of work out, have model builders on the payroll, or just tell some one from the office who has an ability, to do it?

Most intelligence agencies in the world have very capable "art" departments that build models, props, concealing devices for communications gear and listening equipment, etc. I would imagine NGIA would definitely have some people whose only job is to build models of important buildings and structures like this, based on satellite and photo reconnaissance.

For a very interesting read on the kind of work these departments do, I suggest the two books by retired CIA officer Tony Mendez ("Spy Dust" and "The Master of Disguise").
