Aaronw
This post is for updates on the group build. It is also the place to talk with other members about any aspects of the GB (other than a specific build), looking for info on markings, version of an aircraft, how to do a new technique etc. If you have a question about whether or not a proposed subject is acceptable for the group build you should post it here. Aaronw
Ok, here is the first batch of banners. I will add more banners to include other subjects / nationalities as I get time. As usual please copy and host the banner of your choice in your own photo site. Edited July 6, 2012 by Aaronw
TaiidanTomcat
If you have a question about whether or not a proposed subject is acceptable for the group build you should post it here. Was going to PM but since this thread is here... I do a lot of what if models, and no they aren't always "1946" style paper projects. Sometimes its just a regular aircraft in fictional camo, or sometimes its "frankenplanes" --major surgery for kitbashing a few kits. would anything like that be acceptable? Here is a flying wing I did recently: :) TIA!
Aaronw
I'm not completely opposed to the idea but it really depends on how you can connect it to the GB. Personally I find a lot of what if models kind of fun, but for the GB I'd like to keep things at least somewhat grounded in reality, so it kind of depends on what you have in mind. The flying wing is neat, my dad uses a Japanese aircraft carrier with a similar dazzle scheme as his screen saver.

Let me kick some ideas around and then get back to you with some better details, erring on the more realistic and less fantastic side
Neo
Or you always have the what if 2.0 in jan 2013
dbsmith88
I'm working on some banners for the GB, when they are ready I'll post them here. How about 1 with a pin up? Kinda like what the Escort GB has. It's a WW2 GB after all!

Let me kick some ideas around and then get back to you with some better details, erring on the more realistic and less fantastic side That is probably the easiest way to go. Poorly documented paint schemes, wrong intel (planes the Allies thought the Japanese built but didn't), test and prototype planes that didn't actually reach service, stuff like that I think could find a place. The Pacific and CBI were full of also rans and small scale experiments / field modifications, so I think there is more room for mild what if type aircraft than some GBs. True frankenplanes probably fit better with the upcoming what if build Neo mentioned. How about 1 with a pin up? Kinda like what the Escort GB has. It's a WW2 GB after all! Not a bad idea, pinups don't seem as common as in ETO but they were around, I'll see what turns up, thanks.
Bigasshammm
I've got the academy SB-17g search n rescue. Not sure if they were ever used in the pacific but I can't think why they wouldn't have been. Read through the info on the instruction sheet and it didn't give much aside from dates of service. If that's ok it may be what I build for the gb. Probably build it along with a 48th scale 17 I hope to start soon.
rightwinger26
Well then, were gonna have three forts going then Hamm, after the Rufe is finished, I'm gonna build an OOB 1/48th RoG Fort and use the Mike Grant markings for Panama Hattie, unless you've laid claim to that one!? Pete
I will be building: A P-47 in RAF service in India, Academy 1/72 kit A SB2C-4 Helldiver, also Academy 1/72 maybe a G4M Betty, Hasegawa 1/72 Also, I'm leaning towards a B-25C which was originally delivered to the Dutch but got stuck in India when Japan invaded the Dutch East Indies. It then was transferred to the RAF who converted it into a recce plane with a funky blue colorscheme. This will be time and funds permitting, since I don't have a kit, cameras, or markings. Negative. I mostly lean towards 15th af but I couldn't resist the SB-17.

Aaronw
The SB-17 was definately used in the Pacific. The US Coast Guard also operated the SB-17G under the designation PB-1G.

Dirkpitt289
I have been wanting to do a Pacific Build for some time now. I have just the subject for this build and it's somewhat... different. A J7W1 Shinden
