boom175
Its an old kit from when Academy copied others molds, its a repop of the hasegawa kit. Stay away, if you want to do a 1/48th Viper get a Tamiya kit, you'll be much happier!!! If that to expensive get a Hasegawa kit one of my favorite kits of all time but its showing its age! KursadA
I don't see how it could be a repop of the Hasegawa kit; the two kits are very different in almost every respect. The parts breakdown and overall shape is similar, and that's pretty much all the similarity between the two. It has recessed panel lines and the shape doesn't look bad overall; but it is simply not as fine and refined as the Hasegawa kit. It has a completely horrendous intake/front landing gear parts arrangement that is hard to describe; and the shapes of many parts (pylons etc.) are definitely suspect. I guess it could have been a contender for a cheaper alternative to the Hasegawa kit before Tamiya and Kinetic kits arrived at the scene, but now it is best forgotten. You could consider it if you're building a number of F-16 kits and need a cheaper kit that basically looks right from normal viewing distance.
hornet97
I am going to be doing it as a US Navy f/a-16 n sea snake what if plan after seeing some profiles in the what if schemes thread.
jester292
I have the Academy kit in my stash. It looks good, as an inexpensive option. Mine was $12 at Hobby Lobby. It definitely is NOT the Hasegawa kit, but I've seen it built into a great Viper. A little work will go a long way with this kit. Aaron
dsmith
Like the others said, the best is Tamiya, but if that is more than you are looking for, get a Hasegawa kit. Don't bother with the Academy kit. I started one just so I could say that I built one, and really wish I had just gone with Hasegawa.... Cheers, -Doug :)

dsmith
That is where I got mine too :) In fact, I bought two, and after I started one, I traded the other one. I am sure if you ask on the buy/sell forum you can find a Hasegawa kit for that or less. After the Tamiya kit came out a lot of people got rid of them. I have severe AMS, and by the time I finish with my Academy kit (if I ever do), I don't think I will have used more than 10 kit parts.... Cheers, -Doug :)
