Aigore
Well then, progress at last :D I dremelled off the wheel well details from the upper fuselage half... Two pices of plasticard where fitted to the rear of the MLG bays to make the resin fit. Then the Aies bays where glued into place... On to the air ducts... I I have the right paint ow :P I opened the can and drew paint into a suringe... And poured it into the ducts, bit of leakage there... Then I opened up the bottom and drained the ducts... I let the paint dry for a bit and then checked if I needed to do another pour and dump, if need be I can do it over and over again and thre´ll be thicker and thicker layers of paint inside. Cheers! Aigore
Time to get rid of thopse small gaps in the cockpit! Looks nasty eh? Bits of plasticard glued into place... Then a bit of masking And then some putty and that´s taken care of :D The sparrow cradles in place, a lil´bit of fit issues here but no biggie :D A pic for all of you who thought I am organized :P Cheers! Aigore
Getting somewhere :D Today I decided I´d get the air intakes done....rather ambitious I thought. First I dropped the fan front into place in the ducts, painted with Alcald white aluminium and a little wash on top of that. And into the intakes, there´s ma seam but looking from the front it doesn´t bother me much...would be lots of work for very little gained to work that seam. The front part is painted with FS 36622 light grey. The same for the works inside the intake. The pistons are in white with Tamyia aluminium for the oleo´s. On with the variable geometry stuff. And on with the air intake, took some fiddling but wiht some convincing it fit nicely into place. A wee bit of a fit issue but I´ll live :D And lastly on with the other intake as well. So far so good...actually thought it would have been more troublesome than it really was. Cheers! Edited July 31, 2012 by Aigore
Sebastijan
are you using that latex paint for the intakes. Fan reflections look really cool.
Aigore
are you using that latex paint for the intakes. Fan reflections look really cool. Yup, I use the gloss kind :D Prolly isn´t that shiny for real tho :P
Aigore
Today I´m concentrating on the rear end :D Excterior shot with ALclad steel and then shaded with Alclad Exhaust and pale burnt metal. The exhaust is paintedn Alclad steel and Exhaust. Noticed that the Aires exhaust don´t fit that well onto the kit part... So I took a piece of evergreen strip styrene (.010x.020) .25mm x.5mmm and made a little distance... And now the fit is better :D The second exhaust done as well :D After that I put in the burner ring and the kompressorblades...unbfortunately my battries died so yu only get a pic of the burner ring in place :P Cheers! Deacon
Man Aigore you're flying with this build mate. Thanks for showing the how to fill intake seams and paint them. Deacon

Aigore
Another wee update :D Thanx Darren for the gun vent! it arrived yesterday :D I made a new "whatever-it-was" above the HUD projector lens, that got lost during cockpit fiddling... And now it was time to tint the winscreen, I don´t really think the screen is tinted but the glass is thicker and refracts light differently from the other windows and makes it look blue-greenish. ANyways the effect has to be reproduced somehow... I started with maksing the windscreen. I ended up airbrushing the tint since I didn´t get satisfactory results with brush painting, the tint is a mix of Tamyia clear green and clear blue. With the airbrush the windscreen fogged up tho. I hoped a dip in Future would clear the fog. So I sanded the canopy and polkished it and then I dipped everything in Future. Looks alright at least. on a blue background the tint doesn´t show that well :P Well that´s it for today :D Cheers!
Deacon
Aigore, I wish to point out that in order to LIVE you need sleep and to eat! What I like about this thread, and this goes for others with your talent, is that you come across a problem and then, you fix it! With me, I come across a problem, decide I'm no way good enough to solve it and put the build in the loft for when I feel the confidence is there to have a go! Keep the updates coming mate, but don't forget to drink some water occasionally! Deacon
Aigore
Heh, thanx Deacon :D Improvise, adapt and overcome :D There are rarely problems with a kit that some tinkering and thinking can´t solve :D Sure you get frustrated when things go wrong...but that´s the wrong time to try to solve the problem, put the kit away and the sollution will apear when you´re calm again :D Otherwise you´d just end up throwing the kit into the wall :P No worries, I´m fully hydrated ...just trying to spend at least 20 minutes aday with the kit :D
Aigore
Time for the big joining! I begin with aligning and glueing the top of the spine of the nose fuselage with the upper main fuselage. Then I had to bend the main fuselage outwards a lil´bit, so I fixed a piece of a tooth pick as a distance and CA-glued it in place. Then I fixed the rest of the front fuselag-upper main fuselage joining. I got a decent alignment so it was time to move on to the bottom main fuselage half... I fit into place and clamped it down before I started glueing. I begun with glueing the bottom part of the nose section to the main fuselage Not too shabby seam there :D This kit has quite got fit actually...just got to work a bit with it. Then I glued the sides, there´s a gap on both sides on the part covering the wings ..a bit of puttying to be done there. Other than that it went together nicely even tho I´ve used a ton of resin :D So far so good :D There´s still lots to do....lots of puttying to do but at least it´s starting to look like something :D Cheers! Thanx vesthepes :D It´s a handfull :D thats actually a brilliant way to tackle this one i followed the instructions and im guessing the nose fit will be a Ill do this on my second one! Thanx Neo :D SOmetimes it´s good to be a bit rogue about it and not follow every step in the instruction :P This is the 3rd time I build this model so I´m not affraid of ad-libing it a bit. Aigore
Hmmm...time to make some changes... Put the wings and fins together... ..And the beaver tail, tho that ECM box next to the fuel vent gotta go! Minor surgery with a file was all that was needed :P Same with the stiffener plates on the vertical stabs, the Alicat have another type of stiffener plates. Some filing, sanding and scribing later... Now for the plates, I cut small pieces of plasticard to shape... And glued them on. With all that doen I masked the windscreen and the canopy. There, that´s all for today :D Cheers! Engineer66
Hi Janne, Amazing work as always. I'm really impressed with the u/c bays, especially the nose bay. When you spray the Klear, do you spray it as it is, or do you thin it first, if so what do you use to thin it? Thanks Al

Aigore
Mopping up before the inevitable.... Put poly caps on the horizonatsl stabs, hopefully they´ll remain adjustable for a while :P Gonna fit into the fuselage like so. Glued on the windscreen and masked the pit. And the beaver tail went on....gonna need some puttying there :P Good thing this chin probe came in the box :D The part I hate about this model, the gun hatches :( the fit is poor..... cut off the alpha probe and drilled a .8mm hole...gonna fit a nice turned brass one in ther instead. Well then, now there´s no escape, I have to start dealing with the gaps...puttying, sanding and rescribing to be done :/ Cheers!
