How to seal the edges of folded PE ?

Recommended Posts

When making some PE parts, it requires folding pieces to make the part thicker. So what you end up is essentially a "sandwich" of layers of PE... sometimes several layers thick.

QUESTION: How do you seal the edges of these layers of folded PE so when you paint the part it looks like a solid part and not layers of metal?

Soldering iron most likely. I know lots of people use them to join pieces of pe together. Don't see why it wouldn't work in this case as well.

Since I don't have or know how to use a soldering iron I'd probably put a small glob of gap filling ca glue either before the fold or afterwards and then sand smooth.

I just run a bead of CA along the seam. If you use a super thin CA, like Mercury Adhesives thin formulation (thinnest CA I've ever seen) it generally leaves a smooth seamless surface. Sometimes needs more than one application.

I use plain old white glue. Dries clear, and doesn't leave a mess. One the PE sandwich is completed, I apply it with a toothpick to all of the exposed edges, and remove it with a Mk.I licked finger. Let dry, and you're good to go.

I have some "Weld Bond" at home... is that essentially the same thing?
