Guest strikeagle22
Building my first resin cockpit and there is some photoetch parts. What is the best way to attach the matal parts. I wouldn't think superglue would be strong enough for the rails on the aces II ejection frame. Does using solder work? Any help would be great. :)
big josh henderson
in my opinion CA " cyanoacrylate" glue works great good and strong, it needs to be applied in small amounts though i use great planes pro CA, its basically the same as super glue i think HTH josh
MoFo
Solder will work for bonding etch to etch. You (obviously) can't use it to join PE to resin or styrene. There shouldn't be anything in a cockpit that can't be glued with CA - it's not like there's any structural components facing substantial shear stresses. There's very little on an aircraft model that can't be joined with CA full stop. A couple of drops of CA applied with some fine wire or a pin will be more than enough for the vast majority of applications, though paint doesn't bite into etch, it just rests on top (again, obviously), so if you're gluing two painted parts, the bond won't be as strong as metal/metal or metal/resin/plastic. You can also use PVA (white) glue or epoxy for areas that require some positioning or have to be see-through (instrument panels over acetate) or even Future flowed into a join if it isn't going to take much abuse. CBENNA
I BUILT A F-117 WITH ETCH PARTS AND SUPER GLUE WORKED GREAT
Swanny
Superglue (medium thickness), a bottle of accelerator, some round toothpicks, a good pair of tweezers and an old paint brush to apply accelerator and you should be in business.
