TheFlyingDutchman
Hello, yesterday I finished this model. I used a Revell 737-800 (Ryanair boxing) that I picked up for a bargain price at the Aviation Megastore. The previous owner already attached the two fuselage halves and painted the cockpit canopy black, and forgot to add nose weight. I removed the canopy so I could polish it back clear and to glue a metal screw through the opening. I improved the winglets by cutting the Revell ones at about 1/3th from the bottom and gluing the upper part of a DACO/Skyline winglet back on it. I have a WIP thread on a Dutch forum including a picture of how I did the winglets: http://modelbrouwers.nl/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=36812#.UBZ43mE0OSo I also turned the horizontal stabilizer back to normal as the kit's stabilizer is moulded upside down. The engines from the kit are one of the weakest points of it. They are pointing upwards and the inlet and exhaust systems are crude. I improved the inlet by adding brass tubing and I cut the back end of the exhaust open as in the kit it is a flat solid wall. I didn't try to fix the upward angle of the engines. The LN-Decals are excellent and can be used without the default decal sheet from the original kit as the LN sheet includes quite a lot of details. However I did use the major part of the default sheet details in addition to the LN decals. I also used the transparent cabin window decals from the Revell sheet as LN only provides black cabin windows. There is just one point that LN missed and that is the small Norwegian logo on the inboard side of each power plant. I will add these later as soon as I replaced the ink cardridges of my printer.
