gonzalo
Oh sorry. Forgot to say didn't I? I used Mr.Surfacer 500. Dab it with a stiff bristle old brush until it starts to set-up. /Jesse Thank you Jesse!
scapilot
Check spruebrothers for after burners weapons decal sheet. Not sure if they still have any but that should be what youre looking for. Hasegawa weapons sets also come with decals as well but at a premium.
scapilot
Just chec ked and they're out. Try evilbay. Heres what youre looking for though. http://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/afd48056.htm
Skinny_Mike
I've been looking and can't find the afterburner set any where. I'm actually considering making my own decals for ordanace since no one seems to make an aftermarket sheet. Another thing to remember is that the LGG bombs have black stencilling to contrast with the bomb body while the yellow stencilling is used on green bombs. I haven't found any one making black stencils yet (another reason I may try making my own). Your rhino is looking fantastic Jesse. Really inspiring.

Yeah I know the AB sheets are GONE! Those are the USAF marking anyhow, guess I'll have to get creative :cheers:/> If you decide to make some decals, I would love to see the finished sheet!!!! :D/> /Jesse
scapilot
Got a hold of Scott from AB decals to see if he still had any in his liquidation stash, and that's a no go man. So those are gone for good I guess. Don't know who else has something to that effect. Perhaps the Has kits are the only option unless you can borrow from other kits or the leftovers if you have any. Wolfgun33
Man that Super Bug is looking awesome!!! Very nice work on the painting. On the weapon decals, have you tried TwoBobs? They have missle markings. Not sure if that's what you need but it might help.

JesniF-16
Good evening guys! Thanks Patrick :D/> Glad to read from you... Hope yer doing well! Hope you guys are not getting bored to death with this thread The load out has been killin' me lately.... Between finding the right weapons to buy, then of course there are hardly any decals out there for the load out I'm going with :doh:/> If nothing else I am learning a lot about these Navy birds and their load out!!!! The weapons are 95% finished and i will post the progress later on this week! I managed to get the 2 FPU-11 fuel tanks finished & weathered with some pastels... Just noticed there is a placard I could add just under the refueling port... The ATFLIR pod is considered DONE! Weapon station #9 with the LAU-117 is finished.... As well as the rest of the pylons. I began detailing the nose gear doors... My scratch building skills are put to the test, installing the mesh on this door. When dealing with plastic this small, it seems next to impossible to get things square and parallel :bandhead2:/> Either way, after the paint is on, I think it will add a lot more depth to the overall appearance. Thanks for looking :cheers:/> /Jesse
nimrod77
Sweet! That door looks amazing :)

JesniF-16
Sweet! That door looks amazing Thanks Nimrod The gear door is far from perfect, but I think it will be pretty cool when it's finished... That´s absolutely awesome detailing, Jesse!! Thanks Janne The weapons are finished and the build is getting closer to the finish line! To do list: 1-detail and paint landing gear doors 2-paint wheels 3-final weathering of the airframe 4- glue all the major components to the airframe 5-figure out what my next project will be! Wish I could have found some data stencils for the MAV /> I guess until the decal companies make some US Navy weapons sheets, I will just have to live with it. I used stencils from my spares, and the orange strips were painted decal paper.

JesniF-16
Thanks for the comments Wolfgun33 & Honza :D/> Happy Presidents Day!!! The landing gear door details are finished, so it's down to the paint shop for these guys! Some details were added to the starboard forward gear door... I decided to fit the doors and glue in the actuators to avoid problems later. The pieces are kind of fiddly so I made a jig for painting, hoping the pieces will stay in one piece during the painting process Since I used the Aires gear wells, many of the actuators will be scratch built later on.... I scribed the hexagonal ADF antenna... Added some PE to the rest of the doors... The exterior set came as a package deal when I bought this kit, otherwise I wouldn't even bother with the PE hinges... Careful masking was done on the nose gear door, since the PE metal mesh looks good as is..... The landing legs are finished as well :thumbsup:/> I'm not real happy with the white metal gears... The details are much finer and sharper on the kit landing gears I didn't want the main gears to sag over time, but in the future I will take my chances with the kit plastics! It seems like the Bug is almost finished, but there's still plenty to do yet... Weathering the airframe to my liking, could very well take a couple of weeks.... And I am still contemplating the complete redo of the canopy Stay tuned :cheers:/> /Jesse
JesniF-16
Good morning folks, Here's my latest progress. For some reason I opted not to fair in the windscreen months ago :bandhead2:/> After studying many pics of the Super Hornet, there isn't a gap between the windscreen and the fuselage.... So I took the plunge and began surgery on her... Added Mr.Surfacer 500, then sanded smooth. Carefully used micro-mesh to blend in the paint ridge created from excessive sanding. I scribed some new panel lines around the windscreen to represent the metal flashing on the real deal. Also you may notice that the nose is dirtier, since I've been adding some soot and dirt here and there... Here's the faired in windscreen all cleaned up. I also reworked the AGM-65. Loki has hooked me up with some data stencils, what a great guy! I think the MAV looks pretty sweet the second time around :thumbsup:/> Using the punch set from Micro Mark, I punched out some iridescent film and secured it with Future... Next, I punched out a very small piece of gold film to represent the "eye" in the seeker head. Place the gold film with Future and here's what ya get...
JesniF-16
continued- The tail hook has been modified a bit. The kit part was in one piece and was very one dimensional... the knuckle joint where the hook pivots was just molded in one piece with no detail whatsoever, so I gutted out the hook... then shaped it into the knuckle and glued it back into the gear box. Sorry about my terminology, since I don't really have correct names for the parts The boomerang is not installed on all of the Super Bugs, but on this bird I seen it in the pics from Airliners.net. So here it is all put together. Also painted the Royale Resin tires, though I still need to dry brush some grey on the treads. The tires are just dry fitted for the pics. The build is getting very close to the end. Still working on the landing gear doors and still weathering the parts to my liking. Thanks for tuning in :cheers:/> /Jesse

Skinny_Mike
Hey Jesse - your build is looking fantastic! Very brave to go back and fix the windscreen so late in the build. Sorry to go backwards but could you do me a favor and explain how you do you're washes? I've been trying to achieve what you got in the two pictures above, but I never seem to get it to be that successful. Thanks! Mike Hey Mike, thanks for responding :thumbsup:/> For the washes, I use greytone pastel set. It has white to grey to black tones. Mix with very little water and a drop of dish soap. The stuff dries quick and wipes off super easy. A damp cotton swab takes off the wash with a light swipe! For the Super Bug, I used a grey wash, so it's not so contrasting.
