Bigasshammm
So I've been buying up some Tameo kits lately even though I've never done one. Their range of choices is amazing but the price is a bit steep. I've been "stealing" these off of eBay so I'm OK with it so far. This will be my first attempt at a metal bodied kit and a 1/43rd car kit. Kind of intimidating but I've looked at things on here and on F1M and think I'm ready to go. Here's what everything looked like out of the box. minuscule pe parts! Spent about an hour with my files and sanding pad to clean up the body. Pretty happy with it. Then I mocked up some parts to see the overall look and fit. Everything fits quite nicely from the start. I'm gonna put all the major parts in a dish of soapy water over night and then start priming and such hopefully this weekend.
Bigasshammm
Body is ready to go for glossing. I plan to use the Tameo decals for the blue area then seal that and mask off for the yellow using the decals lines. Started on the other parts with a spraying of sg black. 2qwik4u
Looking good so far! I would seriously reconsider masking over decals though. Even with a clear coat and low tack tape, you run a very high risk of lifting the decals off when you remove the masking. I would try making a copy of the decal sheet and using that to make a mask instead. -Dave
Bigasshammm
Yea so I masked and painted the yellow. Guess we'll see here shortly.
Bigasshammm
Worked on this some last night. I don't have cf decals so I'm using my homebrew "CF paint" as I like to think of it. I mixed gloss black with steel for a build a long time ago and I really like how it looks. Especially in this scale I think it does the trick. I've since glued the bottom half of the engine/rear suspension on and am subtly detail painting everything. Also got the wheels together. 4 pieces (two pe and 2 aluminum) I've already lost one of the lugs which apparently wasn't glued on properly. These just got sprayed gloss black. And here's the body after the first clear cote.
Bigasshammm
Just finished the rear suspension...
Bigasshammm
Been working on decaling the body. Everything is going nicely and I like the kit a lot. Then disaster struck and my airhead 18yr old stepdaughter nearly lost the front wing and did ruin the rear wing. I'm only a little bitter about it. The rear wing ended up in the dryer so it melted the end plates. I cut most of them off and will sand down the rest and have to build new endplates. Anyone know if there's a way to get replacement parts from Tameo? In case this doesn't work out. On to the pics. and the ruined wing
Bigasshammm
Been decaling the body slowly as I work on other things. Here's where she is now. WARNING: terrible pictures sorry I also repaired the rear wing. Cut the end plates off and sanded the wings down with files for about two hours. Cut new end plates out of plastic sheet. It's been repainted and I painted the black today by hand which I'm not happy with. Will try to sand it all smooth but may have to strip and redo. Shawn M
looking good! How hard is the metal to work with?
HOLMES
Good work.
Bigasshammm
looking good! How hard is the metal to work with? Not bad. Hit the body with metal files and it cleaned up nicely. Only problem was the rear wing that melted. I've fixed it somewhat but still not truly happy with it. This seems to be a relatively easy kit compared to some of the others I've seen lately. Shawn M
bummer about the wing, however it should be an easy scratch build
Bigasshammm
Here's where she's at now. Got the rear wheels on. Not happy with how the tire decals are going. Oh well. I'm kind of stumped on the front suspension. There's two bars on each side but they seem way too long. Not sure if I'm supposed to drill and push them into the body or cut them. Still trying to figure that one out. I'll ask the guys at F1M and see what they say. I don't really have a drill bit that small so I either have to get one or come up with a new approach. Bigasshammm
Tackled the front suspension. Still have two parts to put on but I have to paint the ones I did today first. Happy with it.
