Portamus
Hi fellow builders, After being a forum lurker for quite some time, I decided to sign up and start posting as there seem to be alot of good guys on the forum and as always, a VAST amount of research information available if one is just ready to search or ask for help. A little about me... 26 year old South African, I hold a South African Multi-Engine Commercial Pilots License and Grade 3 Instructors rating. I was born into aviation, as my family have been involved in flying since it started South Africa. My Grandfather's uncle was the 3rd pilot to be trained in country, we have his license and logbooks I believe. My Grandfather was an instructor and fighter pilot during the Second World war. He flew Spitfires in combat with 9Sqn SAAF in North Africa, and 145Sqn RAF in Italy. My step grandfather flew Tomahawks and Kittyhawks with 4Sqn SAAF in North Africa, and later flew Dakotas and Venturas. My father was also in the SAAF, flying Harvards, Allouete 3s, Pumas, Impalas, Dakotas and C-130s. He flew a number of operations during the Bush War, and was very nearly shot down one evening deep over Angola. I started building at the tender age of 7 or 8, and built throughout my school years, until I started learning to fly, afterwhich I had to take a 5 year break from the hobby. I did eventually come back (as one often does to a life long love)... Onwards with the pics.. I've build mostly SAAF stuff in recent times, but I am not one to shy away from other Air Forces... OH.. and I'm a 48 scale builder by choice Mirage 3 R2Z '857'- Italeri Mirage 3E + Scaleworx R2Z conversion kit/Old School Mirage paint set Impala Mk1 '460'- Italeri Mb326 + Scaleworx wingtip correction set F-15E- Academy boxing.
