Darren Roberts
I'm tossing around the idea for making vinyl masks for hull numbers on US warships. What font are they? Are they the standard Long Beach font? Also, what (in inches or mm) would they be for 1/700 and 1/350 scale? As ship builders, would you rather use decals or would painting them be better? Thanks for any input you can give. Cheers! Darren Steel Beach Accessories
wh1skea
I think hull numbers are more 45° lettering (Amarillo) than 60° lettering (Long Beach). As for decals vs painting, painting would seem to be fine for just plain white numbers, but once you get into shaded hull numbers, decals might be the way to go. Check out NavSource.org. It is the best resource when it come to ship pics. Edited September 2, 2012 by wh1skea
niart17
Not sure how close but here are a few that LOOK like being close but without the shade. I'm sure those more in the know will have a better answer though if these are wrong. The Amarillo does look closest, but there may be a few numbers that aren't spot on. It may take some manipulation to get them just so. http://www.dafont.com/usn-stencil.font http://www.dafont.com/bombardier.font http://www.dafont.com/amarillo-usaf.font Bill
