.linus
Hi everyone! This is my 480th tfs f-16 block 50. I built this for my wife's boss. Her son was deployed to aviano with the 480th for Operation Odyssey Dawn. Big thanks to St0rm for the reference photos on the loadout. Unfortunately the only thing I am missing is the an/alq-131, and I'm not that proficient with scratch building. As far as I know there are not any current decals for the War Hawks. I used Afterburner's Big-22 decals, and happened upon several reference photos on f-16.net' odyssey dawn page of "813" which surprisingly did not have the War Hawks tail emblem, just the blank red back flash and the same loadout st0rm confirmed. Perfect! Spliced some decal #'s and voila! Here we go! Thanks for looking, and hope you enjoy. Edited September 12, 2012 by .linus

Doughboy
FANTASTIC job on the Have Glass! That weathering looks on point. Those turkey feathers also look sick! Where did you pick up the G-31v1?

Doughboy
Thanks man! It was an extra from from an academy f-15. What did you paint the Turkey Feathers with? Did some of the clear coat chip off? Another thing, GJ on the rocket motors faces. I wish more kits had the inverterd cones on the Slamers though. That was one thing that I did not like on the Tam. .linus
Thanks again! For the turkey feathers I used a base of alclad duraluminum, then a thin mixture of tamiya transparent red/green. Starting from the base of the nozzle, the ratio was more red than green, and I gradually added more green the further I got to trailing edge. Just extremely light mists only enough to tint the metal. Unfortunately I forgot to seal the base coat before moving on to masking for the inner parts of the feathers (alclad steel followed by very thin tamiya flat black). When I removed the mask the paint flaked some. I had to go back and touch it up. When I was finnished it was extremely glossy so I hit it with a flat coat and that was the end result. Hindsight, I believe I might have a much better process to attempt on my next go around.
JesniF-16
Nice Viper Good work on the payload... Just curious, are they kit load outs and decals? /Jesse
.linus
Nice Viper Good work on the payload... Just curious, are they kit load outs and decals? /Jesse Hey thanks! The majority of the loadout is from the kit. The gbu-31 v1 , was left over from an academy f-15. For the aim-120c's I grabbed an extra from another f-16 kit because the current kit only comes with 2, and the left HTS & Lightning pods are from the hasegawa E set. The decals are mostly from the afterburner "big 22" sheet and I cut and spliced some extras to get the right serial# Edited September 15, 2012 by .linus

.linus
So it's really driving me crazy that I don't have the an/alq-131, so I decided to try my hand a scratch building one. I know it's not a photo copy of the original bit it works for me, and this is my very first major scratch building attempt. Not too bad at least. ShaunBD
Neat Viper!, looks good. Don't know if this helps, but there's a ALQ-131 in the Kinetic F-16 kits. Shaun Edited September 16, 2012 by ShaunBD

Hopefully here soon we'll start seeing some decals for the new 5th Gen. Have Glass painted Vipers! Thanks! And agreed! I started this build literally just before the squadron changed over to 480th. It was very frustrating, so i held off in hopes of new decals. Nothing came out, and then I stumbled upon pics of the war hawks flying out of aviano for lybia, and noticed a bunch of aircraft didn't have the war hawks emblem. I really lucked out on that one. Ruben
Why is it carrying a Litening II pod? Block 50 CMs in OOD carried either LANTIRN or Sniper pods.

That’s not fully true. I was in the 510th AMU at that time and there. There was only so many Sniper Pods to go around so we still flew the older LANTIRN pods too. My guess is the guy just didn’t know the difference or that’s all he could find. It’s still great work. I crewed 90-812 in Misawa.
