Hi! I thought it was about time that I got things going in my build for this GB. I will be building a Fw 190 G-3 (W. Nr 160043, DP+HQ) that was captured in Sicily. This aicraft was repainted and marked as EB101 for its testing at Wright Field. Here's what I am starting out with:

Here's what I am hoping it will end up looking like:

The eagle eyed modelers who are reading this will note that the kit I am starting out with is not a G-3 but an A-6. This is a pretty easy conversion as the G-3 was based on the A-6.

More to follow!

Have fun modeling!

With a few other kits on my work bench, this build will be a bit slow at first (and second...:woot.gif: ) I have cleaned up the cockpit and started the painting. Not much to look at now as it is just one base color, RLM 66 right now. I do need to convert the kit to the right version which is a G-3. This gives me something to do while the paint is drying. One of the most obvious changes from an A-6 to a G-3 is the removal of the fuselage guns. These were simply puttied over in my build.

Another change is the deletion of the bomb racks for the captured aircraft. These are molded on the kit wing (at least the attachment points are) and need to be removed. I have marked these using a black marker in this photo to show what needs to be removed.

With the wings guns also needing deletion, that's pretty much it for the major changes to the kit.

Have fun modeling!

Here's a bit of an update on my slow progress. I have been working on the True Details cockpit and have it finished and am ready to close up the fuselage. Here's how the cockpit looks after painting and slight weathering:

I have also been working on a few other bits and pieces like the props and seat but not a lot to write about.

Have fun modeling!

Hi! It has been awhile since I last posted an update, so I thought that I should do just that. I have several other builds in progress and a bit farther along, so this GB kept getting placed in back of the work bench. Well, I want to try and finish on time so I rushed putting the fuselage, wings, etc. together. Big mistake! I ended up with the major parts not quite in alignment and this will require some major seem filling and repair. I will also need to do some rescribing as I will lose a lot of the great panel lines in this kit. As this is my first Fw 190, I am looking at it as a learning exerience and now I know waht to watch out for the next time.

The lesson learned: Patience, Grasshopper!!! :coolio:

Here's how it looks now as I embark on my sessions with Mr. Surfacer, Mr. super glue, Mr. Adult Beverage.......

I am continueing my slow crawl to the finish line! I have been running into a host of small problems with this build with all of them self inflicted. I am convinced that there is a modeling gremlin who sneaks into my hobby room and adds seams to the wings, fusleage, etc. while I am asleep. :bandhead2:/>/> I have been working on cleaning up this kit on and off and I believe I am about ready to move to the paint stage. Here is the Fw 190 after the umpteeth coating of primer and multiple applications of putty and super glue.

Hopefully I will have something a bit more colorful to look at in the next week. I do plan on finishing this puppy but I don't think I'll make the deadline!

Have fun modeling

Progress!! This Build has been a bit on the quiet side so I am glad I can add a little bit of forward movement in my project. I now have the aircraft painted and drying happily sitting on my workbench. I want to give it another day or so to allow the paint to fully cure before I add the gloss coat in preparation of the decal step. Here is how it now looks:

I will not be able to finish this build before the deadline but I do intend to complete it sometime in the next few weeks. That's what I get for being involved in too many GBs! :lol:/>

Have fun modeling!

Mike
