FM-Whip
The U.S. Army this week announced a new helicopter camouflage paint scheme, which seems to reverse the trend towards even more drab colors. An Army spokesperson said that the new scheme, unofficially named "Hollywood", was adopted to enable Army helicopters to blend in with "green-screen" technology, which is used by television and film producers for special effects purposes in which footage of actors can be electronically merged with a greenscreen backgrounds shot separately. The Army will not confirm that it is working with a big Hollywood studio on a blockbuster movie but film industry insiders say that there is some sort of large secret project going on. The Army and the FAA also said that they think this paint scheme will cut down on the possibility of mid-air collisions. There is no word on whether this paint will be used on Army aircraft in Afghanistan. Army pilots interviewed in Aviation Week and Space Technology said that they had "no comment". The U.S. Navy, not to be outdone, has announced a "Bluescreen" camouflage paint. John Hairell (tpn18@yahoo.com)
Tank
I have grossly under estimated the Army's ability to make the Apache look even uglier.
thatguy96
A good joke, but a photoshopped image, and not a very good one at that.

Phrogger
I thought maybe the Army is allowing sponsers now, much like sports venues do... and this unit is being sponsered by Kawasaki.

11bee
On a more serious note, is the tan-ish color being used on the new CH-47F's going to be applied to other Army helos? If not, why would the Army decide that Chinooks need to be a different color than every other helo in the inventory?

If not, why would the Army decide that Chinooks need to be a different color than every other helo in the inventory? There was no decision that CH-47s would have a different color - it was just the first airframe our of the factory where the new paint could be applied. The earlier talk was that the new color ("desert sage green" A.K.A. "SAC tan" semi-gloss FS24201 or flat FS34201) would be applied fleet-wide to all fling-wing assets, probably when the a/c went though depot maintenance. So far the only a/c I've seen in that color are the CH-47Fs coming out of the factory. I bet you that there are "budget problems" and that we will end up with a mix of colors across the fleet.
