1:72 Transformers Starscream F-22

Recommended Posts

I really like the Starscream F-22 with tattoo in the movie Transformers II. But I couldn’t find any Starscream model or the tattoo on her in the Internet until couple months ago. I found a 1:144 Starscream F-22 model from Tomytec. The tattoo on this 1:144 Starscream F-22 looks like the Starscream F-22 in the movie and almost same. Then I talked with my friends who play 1:144 models about this information. Fortunately, one of my friend in Asia has this Starscream F-22 tattoo version. After he sent some photos to me, I began to prepare for this F-22 Starscream…

1:48 is kind of too big for this Starscream F-22 with tattoo. So I pick this 1:72 Italeri F-22. Most details of this F-22 are acceptable. But many places are different with real F-22. Need to do some amendments for better results.

Thanks to my friend Obake. He took a lot of photos of his Tomytec 1:144 Starscream for reference.

I would like to build this Starscream F-22 in flight, but there is no pilot in this kit. Therefore, I picked one pilot from Hasegawa pilot/crew set. Also I prepared PE parts to enhance some details.

The pilot from Hasegawa set is different with F-22 pilot. I did some amendments.

Wow, looks good.

I am also looking for some pics of Starscream..

Is it possible for you to mail me a copy of the pics made by your friend?? That would really help me.

The pics i could find were not from directly above the Raptor.

Caretaker, PM sent.

If you watch the movie Transformers II carefully, you will find a pilot on Starscream. And yes, it is a holographic projection. The 1:144 model from Tomytec also includes a pilot, and it is made by clear green plastic. Looks more like a holographic projection. But in the movie, the pilot of Starscream just looks like a normal F-22 polit, not clear green.

Funny, I was thinking the other day ot would be cool to do an F-22 as a Starscream. I love the in flight idea. Nice work on the base too.

Let us to have a group to build Starscream F-22.

I build the Starscream in flight because...I can see the tattoo on bottom fuselage more easy...ha...ha.

Great idea, and looking forward to seeing the end result!

Generation 1 Starscream needs more love though :(/>

I guess generation 1 Starscream got too much love already.… Many people build F-22. These F-22s all look like generation 1 Starscream. :gr_devil:

Update.

8264018401_a11c1d46d6_z.jpg

Italeri makes the canopy as two parts. But there were two big gaps in front and back. Needed to fill.

8265087544_e377ac58c4_z.jpg

I want to see whole tattoo on bottom fuselage, so I decided to close all weapons bays and gear bays. Used styrene strips to hold these bay doors.

8264018529_3e9a3cbefe_z.jpg

The fit of this F-22 kit is not very well. After put door bays on, these gaps were still visible.

8265087644_36c8971eb2_z.jpg

Used Tamiya putty to fill these gaps. After sanded smooth, I rescribed all panel lines of weapons bays and gear bays.

8265087926_75db520c61_z.jpg

Airbrushed Mr. Surfacer 1000. Made sure everything is fine.

8264018877_72a38c3f9c_z.jpg

Next was intake part. Italeri only provides two very simple pieces for intakes. I added a styrene sheet in the middle to separate two intakes. Applied Tamiya putty to corners and sanded.

After surface of intakes were smooth. Airbrushed Mr. Surfacer 1000 again.

There was no engine compressor faces in this kit, but I needed something to cover the intakes. Therefore, I put some styrene sheets at end of intakes, to made them that look like a gill of fish. It is sci-fi…ha…ha…

Then airbrushed white.

In addition, airbrushed another styrene sheet and put on top of intakes. This is how intake looks.

Thank your, K5054NZ.

Too many models are building on my work branch at same time. Here is a small update for Starscream.

Next was painting the display stand base. I don't want the base too shining, and takes the spotlight away from the tattoo of Starscream. But I still want to emphasize the emblem of Decepticon. So I airbrushed Mr. Metal Color 213 Stainless for most area and washed with light gray oil paint.

Airbrushed Mr. Metal Color 218 Aluminum and washed with dark gray oil paint for the emblem of Decepticon.

Some updates for this Transformers Starscream F-22.

15049850915_2e3f060e43_o.jpg

The fit was not so good for this F-22, so it took me a while to assemble the fuselage and do the seamless. Then I airbrushed the nozzles first and masked.

14863122889_b407b7a7dc_o.jpg

I airbrushed some areas with very light white gray. Masked the white areas of Decepticon tattoo.

14863195510_9144e5f1f9_o.jpg

Ready for F-22 paint scheme. Airbrushed Gunze Hobby Color 308 gray for first color.

14863194830_fdd2ac2a74_o.jpg

Masked these areas of first gray.

14863256278_651b2623eb_o.jpg

Masked bottom of fuselage too.

15026852996_546fe13870_o.jpg

Mixed Gunze Hobby Color 315 gray, 56 intermediate blue and white for main color of fuselage. Airbrushed the color on fuselage.

15026852756_2664673128_o.jpg

Airbrushed the color on bottom fuselage too. For stain effect on bottom fuselage, I masked some masking tapes along the panel lines.

14863121229_049775cee1_o.jpg

Used Mounting Putty and masking tape for camouflage of F-22.

15049849035_a68b08b6b5_o.jpg
