Yet another Alclad question

Recommended Posts

Hey All. Im wondering what I could use as a clear coat over my Alclad II natural metal finish. Id like to preserve the metallic sheen as much as possible, its a 1/48 CF-104D in the polished aluminium look. Im afraid a gloss coat will detract from the finish. Would a satin finish work ok?

That's a great looking Starfighter, CC. I once put Future over Alclad and didn't notice any difference in sheen or colour distortion. Others are right though. You don't need to cover the Alclad. It will hold up nicely.

Again, excellent work.

Hi Charlie.

Anything other than a pure gloss coat of future will dull down the polished aluminum. Personally, I don't put any sort of clear coat over Alclad painted parts even if they have decals on them.

Your CF-104 is gorgeous! Lately, I did a Voodoo in natural metal with Alclad. I used a Canadian Tire rattle can of semi-gloss clear Krylon. It may have dulled down the finish slightly, though. I am a bit concerned about decals coming off with no clear coat. Two suggestions:

-Alclad clear (major $$$, though)

-Krylon gloss clear

I've used Future also - it hasn't been too bad.

For my part even tough I cleared my T-33 with future, I'll try not touching this one because its so well done and find a display box as suggested abovewink.gifwink.gifwink.gif
