And after a lot of dremelling to get the wing to fit (and abandoning the rad grill, which just wasn't going to fit, I've got the airframe together.

Next step: Putty. Lots of Putty. The wing roots have major gaps. Then I need to make the cowling fit, which probably means surgery on the upper front fuselage.

Had to deal with pinholes in the resin cowling

Then I got the paint finished up.

And finally glosscote. I was also working on my backlog of Spitfires, so this shot really illustrates the massive size of this aircraft. Note it's 1/72 scale, like both of the smaller Spitfires, but it's essentially the same size as the 1/48 Spitfire XVIe on the right

This thing is huge, being the size of a 1/48 Spitfire. Here it is alongside a P-47D, had the XF8B entered service it would have overtaken the P-47D's record as the heaviest single-engine piston fighter to see active service.
