Watched some last night with the original effects for the first time in BluRay. After seeing how sharp and clear the interior set shots were, I was interested in seeing how the ship space effects held up. The answer is...they don't. In fact the transition to the graininess of the original ship effects in space is jarring. They do not flow well at all. The transfer to BluRay really required a remaster of the effects in order to make it work. So, unless you are willing to watch the new effects, don't bother getting the BluRay set. Having said that, the remastered effects, combined with the crystal clear interior set shots, almost make it like you are watching the show for the first time. I hemmed and hawed about this for very long time...almost two years, before I finally pulled the trigger on the BluRay set. I am glad I did.

If you are a total purest, stick with the DVD and original effects and have at it. But if you want to enjoy the series again a little differently and to a higher standard all the way around, get the BluRay set.
