Kei Lau
Iran unveiled on Saturday its newest combat jet. Pictures. The question is how soon it can fly. The Qaher is one of several aircraft designs rolled out by the Iranian military since 2007. Tehran has repeatedly claimed to have developed advanced military technologies in recent years but its claims cannot be independently verified because the country does not release technical details of its arsenals. Tony Stark
Wow, old school facets, Bird of Prey wingtips...too bad there's no coatings on the canopy, that cockpit's a disco ball. The exhaust is really interesting too, not sure if that's some sort of shroud or if the engine's just small. From the overall size, it looks like a test article or prototype of some sort. Doesn't look to be a lot of space for the avionics, fuel and weapons inside that airframe. Also, kudos for unveiling it in a High School gym! A man walks down the street in a hat like that, you know he's not afraid of anything. Edited February 2, 2013 by Tony Stark
mingwin
and transparency doesn't look great at all on the bubble canopy... good luck seeing something through!
TaiidanTomcat
Or if... Ding ding ding!! Come collect your prize and transparency doesn't look great at all on the bubble canopy... good luck seeing something through! Steath, Duh. If the Iranians only read the internet instead of censoring it they would know that an Upgraded Tomcat is invincible, and stealth technology is obsolete already. Airpower Australia is standing by with their analysis. SPOILER ALERT: "Vastly superior to the F-35." Edited February 2, 2013 by TaiidanTomcat
zerosystem
and transparency doesn't look great at all on the bubble canopy... good luck seeing something through! bad job on the future coating... seriously, that thing isn't big enough for a pilot...did the Iranian's plan on a 1/1 scale prototype? Darren Roberts
Either the man sitting in the cockpit is a giant, or that seat is about 2 sizes too small! :rofl:/> I wonder how his knees taste, because from that picture he sure is eating them. Alex.B
and transparency doesn't look great at all on the bubble canopy... good luck seeing something through! ...looking at the seat.. it doesn't seem full size to me!
zerosystem
no canopy locks/bolts/structure, no stick...and it looks like the canopy is going to hit the pilot in the head if any attempt was made to close it.
metroman
Did they coat the canopy in Saran Wrap?
Dave Williams
Or if... Looking at the thickness of the wings, plus the lack of wing area, it certainly seems unlikely to fly. Even considering it's surely a mockup (likely not full scale), it's not impressive.
plane bum
It looks like a cross between the MD BOEING bird of prey and x-36 test drone when i saw these photos my 1st responce was to laugh like hell but i give them credit for trying.
martin_sam_2000
no canopy locks/bolts/structure, no stick...and it looks like the canopy is going to hit the pilot in the head if any attempt was made to close it. I was thinking the same thing. Everything about that cockpit looks fake to me. no canopy structure, locking pins, pressure seal, seat is way to small, in the few pictures you can see it there is nothing really on the instrument panel, and there is definately too few wires on the back. then you look at the overall aircraft. a bunch of angels in places where it doenst need them, intakjes and exhaust are tiny..if this thing gets airborne it wont be going to fast. as mentioned, not a lot of room for fuel, weapons...hell even a gun!! The surface texture looks really rough..almost like plywood or something painted with grey hardware store paint. I vote for a mock-up to make the population happy that we will never see fly. TaiidanTomcat
no canopy locks/bolts/structure, no stick...and it looks like the canopy is going to hit the pilot in the head if any attempt was made to close it. describes my adventures in scale modeling as well. Wood have been more impressive if they just scaled up a sentinel drone and added that bubble canopy. alternate concepts Edited February 2, 2013 by TaiidanTomcat
Kei Lau
Here's another link, which also has a video of an Iranian news report about it. It has footage of...something...flying: http://theaviationist.com/ Even if it is not the first flight of the aircraft as some of The Aviationist readers say, the way the depicted plane flies is suspect. It seems a radio-controlled scale model more than a modern fighter jet. Furthermore, as someone pointed out: if the Qaher 313 actually flew, most probably Tehran would release footage of its takeoff and landing. no canopy locks/bolts/structure, no stick...and it looks like the canopy is going to hit the pilot in the head if any attempt was made to close it. The pilot was trying to tell Ahmadinejad that the plane flies by mind control. Ahmadinejad was so amazed that he covered his mouth with the green book. BTW, there is a control stick in the mockup cockpit. The instrument panel just looks more Vietnam era than 21st century. Edited February 2, 2013 by Kei Lau

TaiidanTomcat
I didn't listen to the iranian news report. Not because i dont speak the language, but because that "lady" was flaunting her bare hands and uncovered face. Typical sales tactic--use the women in revealing attire to sell your product. Scooby
At least it evades radar, that much I believe. But it would require the ability to fly in order for it to be seen on radar. And if that ever occurs it won't evade radar. What a hunk of junk.
KursadA
This looks pretty ridiculous even for Iranian standards. It looks like a scaled-down test project or demonstrator of some sort..
