nzsabredogfan
Hi all, was wondering if the Tamiya 1/48 F-16 Detail Up Set would be required for the 188th FW aircraft in the boxing, re the strenghting parts? when did these mods start on the US F-16C? many thanks Cheers Steve
Wolfgun33
Depends on the Block number. Do you know which one it is?
Wolfgun33
I just saw that it's a Blk 32 so yes you would need the strengthening plates.
nicholassagan
You can also check out the instructions for each kit on Tamiya's website. They each have a page describing what plates go where. Also, Voyager's set is way cheaper than Tamiya's. 32+42 http://www.tamiyausa.com/pdf/manuals/61106ml.pdf 50 http://www.tamiyausa.com/pdf/manuals/60315ml.pdf 25+32 http://www.tamiyausa.com/pdf/manuals/61101ml.pdf
nzsabredogfan
Hi Guys, many thanks for update, cheers steve
scotthldr
The scab plates started to appear on the Blk32's around 1995-96ish, so anything after that will more than likely require them.
Netz
I'd recommend the Cross Delta plates, they are self adhesive, and contour themselves much easier than the Tamiya parts. I'm not familiar with the Voyager part but they do not look like they are self adhesive. Curt
Niels
The best ones are Cross Delta, but you also have some good ones from Orion Models. https://store.spruebrothers.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=F-16+plate&Submit=Search Both of the above are self adhesive ones, all the other you have to use super glue to attach, which can be quite messy with such fiddly parts. Niels
The plates where introduced to counter cracks that apppeared in the various blocks of F-16's during use. As each block of Viper has different spec's, you will find only 2 on the back and 2 on the wings of Block 30/32, while the Block 40/42 have 10. Block 50/52 and beyound have the strengtheners buildt into the body, hence non you will see externally. Block 5/10/15 also are equipped with these, mostly in the same style as the Block 40/42, although some Belgian AF Vipers appear to have only 2 http://www.f-16.net/f-16_forum_viewtopic-t-6337-view-next.html http://www.f-16.net/f-16_forum_viewtopic-t-3824.html
