Macedonian UH-1H Huey

Recommended Posts

jan, yeah me too. I have one in 1:35 as an exception to the scale rule, which I want to build as a battle worn Nam bird

DonSS3: If you click on the photo you will access my modelling blog with more information - as I'll progress I will be adding photos of the real bird as well. You'll also probably be glad to know, that my next project will be Slovenian Army Bell 412EP - haven't seen many of those built yet.

Your plan sounds very familiar - although I don't have any in my stash. Another Bell I've always fancied is AH-1G, again as a Nam warrior. Matchbox kit in 1/72 was one of my first models and its inspiration came from an article in a Finnish modeling mag with a build report of Monogram's 1/35 (or 32?) model. I still remember that article and I remember reading it many times in a local library... This is getting emotional! :crying2: Sorry for stealing your thread, Seb!

Anyways, no modern kits of this subject exist in 1/72 (a lá Zvezda Mi-24s)?

I don't build helicopters a lot but we all have to agree, new tool UH-1D/H in 1:72 would be most welcome...

As this is the kit I got, I'm pushing forward with it, correcting/updating what I can and more or less concentrating on its finish.

Looks like a pop of the Hasegawa kit form the 70's, not the best Huey around, it looks underscale. I much prefer the ESCI kit in 72nd and 48th scales.

I'd have to disagree about the Esci D/H models. Engine cowling is too fat and the vent screens are too small. Also, the cabin door has mismatched windows when they should be the same size. I'm also not a big fan of the tailboom shape, but others think it's just fine. In 48th the Italeri kit is a much better starting point in my opinion, even with the mix of 212 and UH-1H parts. I think the best 1/72 UH-1H you can currently get is to take the nose and doors from a short bodied Italeri Huey kit and graft them onto the Hasegawa kit then rework the rotor so that the stabilizer bar is above the rotorhead, or even use an ESCI rotor. Personally though I'm jut glad to see someone giving it a go in 1/72 scale.
