71roadrunner426
Well again the weathermen where off with their predictions. They went from 3-6' to 4-8 then from 8-10' that sent people scrambling in the grocery stores. We got only 5' out of the 10, believe me I'm not complaining at all but they scared the hell out of a lot of people again.
JasonW
Woke up this morning to a snow storm still going on that is almost living up to all the hype. I've got at least two feet out there. My neighbors car is a snow mound, can't even see the car any more. There is a close to four foot snow berm at the end of my driveway. That and it is still snowing like a mofo at this time. Guess I'll stay in and get some bench time today. We've got plenty of food in the house and I've got plenty of scotch and beer so we'll be okay. :D

TaiidanTomcat
I would like to take this time to tell you about a wonderful land: Snow is something that happens elsewhere. Taxes are low, guns are plentiful, weather is warm year round, and the women are gorgeous and available. (Don't tell anyone this. Its all a secret)
JasonW
Sorry TT, about the only things I'd trade for with Texas are the gun laws and conservative government. Too hot for me down there and I'm not a fan of rattlesnake, scorpions and big hairy spiders. Not really a fan of tornadoes either. Where I'm at I am about 35-40 minutes from the mountains and the ocean. Great seafood and lobsters. Besides, I like having four seasons. I'm a New Englander. Born here and lived here my whole life except for my time in the military. For all the ranting, I actually like snow and winter. Storms like this are not that common, I'll deal with them when they blow through.

82Whitey51
The news has to hype it to perpetuate the fear of Global Warming ( why all the stow then???) and to let you know that you should listen to your government and public officials ...they will take care of you! I just wanted to hear Boston's Mayor Menino say "Nemo" a bunch of times! Comedy gold. Grew up in Boston and was stationed in Maine a few years back...as long as morons stay off the roads everything is all good in these situations. My favorite thing to do during big "stawms" was just walk down to the local pub and hang out. That's when they were always packed with people you hadn't seen in a while. John's doing it right. First thing I did when I got up to Maine back in '04 was go out and buy an Arien's snowblower! There were 5 kids in my house growing up, there was no way dad was gonna go blow money on a snowblower with an in house snow clearing crew...and it sucked! My wife is from the South and would curse the snow...but I'd have to beat that broad out the door to the snowblower! I think she secretly loved running that thing. Menino saying "Nemo" would be classic! Just don't do what Joe Sakic did when his snowblower jammed with snow and started clearing it out with his hands without shutting the darn thing off . Horrido
The news has to hype it to perpetuate the fear of Global Warming ( why all the stow then???) and to let you know that you should listen to your government and public officials ...they will take care of you! Global warming = more energy in the atmosphere = more extreme/unusual weather over longer periods more frequently (which is what we're seeing). You should listen to your government and public officials, quite intently and comprehensively, because that's the only way you'll know what those uneducated nutjob control-freaks are intending so you can head their schemes off at the pass... Or they WILL take care of you! Eastern WA, 50 F during the day, 25-30 at night, clearish skies, clear roads, spring's a comin'.
Spectre711
I knew these storms were going to be over dramatized once they started naming the winter storms. They said we were going to get a foot of snow and high winds in NJ and we got 6" and no wind.

JasonW
Hey now. We have more than one season, summer and two weeks of winter. You guys are shoveling snow and I'm mowing the lawn. Very strange. Nope, no shoveling at my house. Proud owner of an Ariens snowblower now. I'd rather fire up the snowblower than the lawnmower, snowblowers are more fun..... :DI have nothing against Texas, it's a fun place for me to visit. Was at Fort Hood during my time in the Army, didn't really mind it all that much other than the heat and critters that I wasn't all that fond of. I just have no interest in living there. As they say, to each his own.

I also don't know what is going on up here^ Stay warm, my friends. yes, she is a sherif...and she is as mean and angry as that video makes her look...don't let the fan fool you. 11bee
Got power back at 5 this AM. House across the street has a 50' oak across the driveway, 50' pine partially through their roof. Buddy next door had a big tree take out his above ground swimming pool and part of his sun room. Nothing but small stuff down in my yard, thank goodness. No snowblower here. Me and the missus shoveled our long driveway by hand. After being without power for a week after Hurricane Irene, I broke down and bought a 5000W generator last year. Nothing massive but we could run some elec heaters, microwave, coffee maker, etc. This is the first time I've had to fire it up. Made all the difference in the world, especially with a baby in the house. Brother-in-law is an electrician, he came by yesterday and wired a pig tail into the electrical panel so last night we had the furnace running and hot water. I bought the generator on sale, signed up for a Home Depot card to pay for it and got another discount as well. Best $400 I ever spent. Quite humorous regarding the hype on this storm. I'm old enough to remember (barely) the blizzard of 78 and a bunch of other storms that were nearly as tough. To me, this was just your typical NE blizzard / Nor'easter. Nothing compared to the one in 78, that was in a category all by itself. I think the recent decade of mild winters has made everyone forget what a real winter storm is like. As far as living in TX, no thanks. I like NE. 4 seasons, 20 minutes from the ocean and an hour or so from ski country. Lots of other benefits as well. Plus weren't they all seceding from the US? I don't have a TX passport. Edited February 11, 2013 by 11bee

Fun story: Since New Mexico allowed illegal immigrants to get driver's licences you need a passport to prove american citizenship since ID/DL obviously can't now. For most states the DMV ID crap has meant diddly anyway. If it actually meant something, we would only need one form of ID for anything is using an ID/DL, which ant gana happen. Most places do not even give a crap about the signature on them. To be honest, if I get annoyed and know people are going to ask for a billion forms of idea, I just use my passport and tell them to Sod off.
