vince14
I'm just thinking about what the world's most expensive model kit is - Hiroboy currently have for sale the Model Factory Hiro 1/12 Lotus 79 on sale for £640/$975. Can anyone beat this? Let's say no auction sites, as we all know how crazy prices can go there! Vince
GreyGhost
At that price, I'll take two ! -Gregg
Holeshot
Those Pocher 1/8 car kits were up there in that $800-1200 range weren't they? And that was 20-30 years ago! Curtis
Phantom ordie
Some kits on ebay have been ridiculous.
JasonW
Some kits on ebay have been ridiculous. I think Vince said he is talking straight up retail cost for a stock type kit and not inflated eBay prices.Pocher is back under Hornby's ownership now. They revealed a 1/8 Lamborghini Aventador at Nuremberg this year but no price has been released as it is not available yet. I'm sure it will be up there though. GreyGhost
My late Father built the Poacher Rolls Royce coupe ... We still have it in the display case he built for it ... -Gregg
janman
Surely worth the money though since the level of detailing is mind blowing. I wish a similar kit of the Group B Delta S4 would emerge one day. You can be sure I would be ready to pay that sum or even a bit more for a kit like that!
Berkut
Not as expensive as Lotus, but at half the price atleast as amazing. :) http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/9kltsmfpk0samkrauoiz.html

I thought it was around 800$ when it was first released. That new Tamiya 1/12 car kits are pretty freaking ridiculous too and that's for a mostly plastic kit.
HOLMES
I saw this .. Just looked at the Andrea website - The U Boat is only £1590 if you buy from them direct....and whilst you're there, you can also buy a 1/32 Adolf Hitler to put in your submarine! HOLMES
Vince, Yeah saw them too...some really expensive figures too.
Bigasshammm
What was that 1/72nd Aircraft Carrier (Enterprise?) that was 15,000$ or something posted a month or two ago? Might have even been more than that I can't remember. I know it was a stupid high price though.
aerofan
I'm surprised that no has said the 1:1 scale F-35 JSF yet . Just kidding but I agree with Bigasshammm that 1/72 Chinese aircraft carrier. It is made of steel or some metal alloy and the shipping would just put it over the top $$$. tonal
Wow those links are awesome and prices are over the top, but hey, if you can afford em ....
K5054NZ
I thought it would've been this: http://www.g-system-shop.com/product_info.php?scale_id=9&products_id=110 , a 1/35 Gundam armoured suit thingy for US$2517. Stands at 1m+ tall. After seeing the U-boat, now I'm not so sure!
Adam Baker
How much was the 1/35 Dora when it first came out? Wasnt retail somewhere between 800 & 900? Still really hoping to pick one up some day. Trying to negotiate w/ a friend who has one.

I was about to post that. Who actually has room to display that kit.
dnl42
Hmm. Live steam tends to be uber expensive. This 1 guage Union Pacific Challenger 4-6-6-4 locomotive is NOT the most expensive at $13,500. The large ones are 7 1/2" guage (1/8 scale), are driven by an engineer, pull cars containing several adults, and can takes years to machine and build...
kap64
OK, not in kit form, but still a model. How about a 1/8 Lamborghini Aventador for a cool $6.5 mil! You can get it in carbon fiber with solid gold rims or gold plated. Oh yea, and real gems in the seats... http://www.guelpen.com/ Edited February 23, 2013 by kap64

tdogg
This is ridiculous, when a scale model cost more than the real deal. You could buy 20 real ones for that money!!! I was gonna say the same thing. I'd rather spend the money on a real Lambo than shell out $6.5m on a model, in fact if I had an extra $6m kickin' around burning a hole in my pocket I'd buy a jet, a real jet and go flying not buy a model car, I'd rather give 6 million people $1 then shell out that kind of money on a model, hell I'd still have $500,000.00 left to still buy a Lambo and fill it with premium at Atlantic Canadian gas prices! Shall I continue to tell you what I'd rather spend $6.5m on? lol Edited February 28, 2013 by tdogg
