CraigSargent
Dropped in to the LHS today and managed to pick up the Squadron canopy for the kit. It's currently 8.40pm on March 1 here, so have pulled out the kit and started some surgery on the fuselage, and removed all the bits from the box that are not needed. Waiting on a new USB cable so I can charge my camera and get some pics. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow or early next week.
CraigSargent
And now I know why we are still waiting on a definitive F4U-4!!! The CMK wing section is nothing short of unuseable. It has suffered serious resin or mould shrinkage and is about 5% undersize all round. Not sure if it will be salvageable, otherwise I might have to see if it is possible to graft in a Hasegawa F4U-4 centre section. Small amount of progress to date. Nose removed from fuselage halves, CMK sidewalls added and tail wheel area with base colour on CMK cockpit assembled with base colour on The rest of the bits in the box. For this build I'm using: Tamiya F4U-1A CMK F4U-4 conversion Ultracast late pattern F4U wheels Falcon/Squadron canopy (sliding section only) Engine front from Hasegawa F4U-5N
daywalker
Bummer about the unusable resin- for the price they charge for this conversion set it should be perfect.
CorsairMan
Mine was short too - I did manage to 'hide' the shortfall with Ultracast "up" flaps and it worked... somewhat. This is the best solution I have seen and had I not already progressed past this point in my build, I would have done the same thing: Solution!
tenspeed
I've done this conversion too. I did it way back and mine isn't off like the pics you show. It looks like with age the quality deteriorates. Pitty, as I always thought this was a top end conversion.
