can you paste the link without the http:// in front of it? it looks like a really long link so ARC may be shortening it without retaining the full URL...

Give it a try now, I may have copied the wrong extension on the original link.

hi all

i would need some info/help related to MB Mk 7 seats colors, because i'm color blind, and really have a hard time find correct match for some of those.

particularly for the parachute/pack, lumbar pad, survival kit and belts/straps.

i plan to make USAF,NAVY, MARINES and JASDF phantoms. i use enamels paints, ModelMasters and Tamiya.

i know the belts are of different color from USAF to NAVY version, i've read it, but could someone give me a hint of the closest matching color.

i also see different shades for the seat paddings (parachute/pack, lumbar pad, survival kit ), but just can't figure what color to use...

also, does the JASDF use the same seat as the USAF?

little reminder : please, no "look at pictures and figure it out" I am color blind!

so, just give an answer if you got some valuable info and want to share it, in order to keep this topic substance...

Thank you.

regards

Simon.

I also started a thread related to this subject in the Jet Modelling subforum, where there is a lots of info

What seat would be fitted to a USMC F-4B in 1967?

I'm guessing they would still be MB5's

Also looking at VF--213 F-4G's on the KittyHawk in '66.....what mod's would I need to do to a Academy F-4B to product a Navy F-4G?

Verlinden include a color guide with their resin seats and many of the colors are referenced FS colors. I unfortunately do not have an operating scanner and my copy is kind of hard to read as to what colors go. Maybe you can find somebody with a clearer copy?

Anyone have detailed shots of the wingtip modifications on the USAF QF-4s? I never thought to get those when I've seen them in person.

There have been a few different types used over the years. The Modern Phantom Guide has a large section devoted to the QFs that shows the details.

The AUX air doors where controled by the landing gear control handle, gear up doors closed and vice versa. if engine compartment pressure exeeded ambient pressure the doors would crack open until the pressure equilized.

Hi,

Do remove the slime lights.

Keep the bump, but you may want to sand it down a bit.

From which season is your F-4? Only in the 1973 display season were all 4 Sparrows painted yellow. During the earlier seasons, the rear Sparrows were yellow but the forward ones were blue.

Cheers, Stefan.

Question: re: non-slotted horizontal stabilizers.

The kit I have includes slotted stabilizers (Has RAF FG.1) but I am doing a RAF FGR.2 which as far as I can learn does not.

To model the non-slotted stabs correctly, is it simply a matter of removing the slot details?

Or do I need to do something else?

I have spent some time looking for good photos of the stabs on line with no luck. Thanks in advance

K

Hi,

Here's a shot of Hasegawa FG1 stabs next to FGR2 stabs.

The slotted ones are indeed a bit bigger than the non-slotted ones. I think you can get away with carefully removing the slot details.

Remember to use the normal nose gear strut (part D36) and not the nice sturdy FG1 part.

Cheers,

Stefan.

Hi,

You're welcome, Kevin.

Is your FG1 a true Royal Navy boxing of the Hasegawa kit, or an FG1 (RAF) boxing with 43 and 111 Sqn decals?

I ask because my FG1 is a bit of a wreck that I bought from someone else and I don't even have the original box.

I believe I have all the parts needed to build an FG1, but I wonder how Hasegawa handled the marking that the Royal Navy had to indicate the position of the stabs.

I have not seen this marking on a RAF FG1 or in the Hasegawa FG1 (RAF) boxing.

Is that done with decals, or is there a PE part?

Cheers, Stefan.

Stefan - I am working off the RAF version of the kit like you described. With the 111 and 43 Sqn. markings. I looked and did not see any decal that looked like it would be for what described for the position of the stabs. Nothing in the decal placement instructions either. And no PE in the kit.

Sorry I can't help.

Hi,

Thanks for looking, Kevin.

It must have been a while since Hasegawa released a Royal Navy boxing.

It wasn't even on 1999.co.jp where I checked if I could find the instructions for it.

And I don't think the marking is on the old Almark decal set (for any British Phantom) either.

Cheers, Stefan.
