wh1skea
I'll be doing the Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1D with Eagle Strike Decals. It will be in the markings of VBF-88, USS Yorktown (CV-10). I'm also going to be using the kit decals for the Mustang build I'm doing for the What If Group Build.
wh1skea
Some progress on this build. I've got some Ultracast seats and exhaust tips ordered and on their way. Once they arrive, I'll be able to push forward with this build.
Luno13
Looking good!
wh1skea
Got my parts in from Ultracast today, so I was able to get some major work today. Collection of the assemblies Seat is painted and installed Cockpit installed and Fuselage halves joined Engine and Cowl, Wingtips, Fuselage panels behind cockpit, and Tailplanes attached Gear doors ready for paint Also have the gunsight added to the cockpit, canopies are masked for painting, wheel wells are masked for painting. Basically, all the little bits are added and just have to wait for a warm enough day to paint.
CorsairMan
You are way ahead of me! Nice work!
wh1skea
Tips of the prop painted. Once the paint dries, I'll mask it off so I can spray it with black this weekend.
flyfort17
Where did you get those clamps? They look very useful.
wh1skea
If I remember right, I actually got those clamps at Dollar Tree. They are great for little jobs, but the ratchets don't like to lock when the clamps are almost completely closed. So, thin items like wings and tails, I have to use blocks so they will hold. Kent Tomlinson
That kit and decals look awfully familiar! Glad to see it being built! Nice job. Kent
wh1skea
Thanks again, Kent. It was money well spent, for sure.
wh1skea
And, with much searching, I have finally found photo evidence of the aircraft I'm modelling: F4U-1D of VBF-88, USS Yorktown 1945 Looks like the landing gear might be Dark Sea Blue. Opinions?
Spokane-Modeller
yours is coming along nicely, wish i could keep from getting superglue fingerprints all over mine.
Mr B
Thats the same box type which i will be giving a go......myself..... nice work and very fast progress.... rgds mr b
wh1skea
Sprayed it down.
wh1skea
Got the rest of the little tidbits added (gear doors, landing gear, prop, etc.). Not crazy about the orange-peel from spraying the Model Masters rattle can. Now I remember why I hated using those little spray cans when I was a teen. Hopefully a coat or two of Future will smooth it out.
CorsairMan
Hey there - the blue looks perfect! As for the orange peel you could take some very fine polishing cloths to it or some compound to smooth it out.
wh1skea
Coat of Future and most of the decals added. The next update should be the finished subject.
Spokane-Modeller
Looking good so far, almost to the decal stage myself.
Luno13
Wow! That was fast! It looks very nice too, you can be proud of that one.
wh1skea
Had some problems here at the end, but I overcame them and now this build is DONE! As you see, the decals came off then I pulled the tape up from creating the overspray. But now that is fixed.
oortiz10
wh1skea, Nice build. I really like the over-spray effect. Very convincing. I have a couple of Corsairs in the stash that are tempting me. Maybe I'll get in on this GB. Nice work! -O
