jester292
What FS numbers are used on the F-22 for the camouflage? Hasegawa's instructions are saying 36440 and 36231 for the light and dark colors respectively. To be honest I sprayed them and they seem too light. Are they accurate? Also which colors should I spray the AIM-120 and AIM-9? Thanks, Aaron Edited March 19, 2013 by jester292

airmechaja
Aaron, Academy says FS36251 and 36176 but I sure don't think they look right either. Dean
Rank11
Aaron, Academy says FS36251 and 36176 but I sure don't think they look right either. Dean Those mod-Eagle colors are correct, but yes, it wouldn't look right by themselves because of the anti-infrared topcoat which makes it look metallic. You may want to consider mixing some metallic colors yourself like Graphite and Aluminum. Try mixing 3 parts graphite to 1 part aluminum for the dark color and 3 parts aluminum to 1 part graphite for the light color. There is also the Hawkeye Raptor Sheen additive to make any paint metallic, but I think that stuff might be difficult to find these days.
dsahling
When you look at a Mod Eagle, the 36176 appears almost purple when its new and not in direct sunlight, and after it fades it has a light bluish tint. However, on the F-22 it is really some sort of a dark grey, as to why it calls for 36176 I have no idea, I would imagine the Hasegawa instructions are probably a better representation. Never trust instructions from a brand that has a specific paint range (ie, Gunze) to push. Wasn't there a "how to" article on painting the Raptor? Very good as I remember. Will try to find on ARC. Jim Rotramels build, perhaps? Cheers, Andre
A-10 LOADER
AIM-9's and 120's are FS36375 Light Ghost Grey. Steve
Paolo Maglio
I used the same mixes of Gunze paints as suggested in the Hasegawa instructions and was pretty happy with the result:

They need to be mixed 50:50 with gunze SM4 and SM3 metallic colors respectively.
swimmer25k
Like Paolo, I went with what the Hasegawa instructions suggested. Don't beat yourself up by trying to figure it out. What I like about the Hasegawa mix is that (like the real jet) it looks different under varied lighting conditions and the contrast always changes.
Mike C
Well, I like the look of this, which I'm going to use for my 4th and 5th Raptor: :monkeydance:/> :woot.gif:/> EDIT: BTW, forgot to mention... I used Citadel paints for the above... Edited March 25, 2013 by Mike C
jester292
Thanks for the responses gang. I don't use humbrol paints, so I used the Model Master equivalents. I may have to actually use what Hasegawa recommends in this instance because it looks very convincing. Aaron
