USMC Herc
Corragard?????Did all phantoms have it on the leading edge of the intake? Looking at pics of VMFA-531 1979 'N' Phantoms I cannot tell if they are aircraft grey or corragard. Where does the white in the intake start on Marine Phantoms? Any assistance in this matters would be appreciated. Cheers & Semper Fi
phantom
Nope not all. Some had the cam colour painted over top. Some stayed with the corragard.
Grey Ghost 531
It was red. Probably very chipped up red, but we had the edges of the intakes painted with about a two inch red strip.

USMC Herc
On the 531 jets where did the white start in the intakes? Did it run all the way to the lip or did it end at the variable ramp seam? Thanks for all your help. I am trying to make the paint job as accurate as possible. Any pics you are willing to share I will use as reference. Grey Ghost 531
The external part of the ramp was gray. The white started even with the intake lip at the seam. It was usually pretty dirty unless the bird was just back from NARF. In that picture I posted it even looks like some touch up gray got inside there.
