FLYHY
There were several Albatros D.IIs produced in Austria-Hungary and at the same time they started camouflaging with a swirl pattern. Is there any evidence that the D.II ever had the swirls lozenge, or was it just on the D.IIIs?
dragonlance
53.57 and 53.60 are depicted having green uppers with mustard yellow sworls. It was not "lozenge" nor was it the printed sworl fabric. The yellow sworls were applied with rags or a small brush. Vedran
FLYHY
Thanks for the information. Any chance you have a link to a photo of either plane? The painted swirls were applied before swirl lozenge was created I believe.
dragonlance
Here you go: 53.60 is the crashed one. http://1.air_war.sweb.cz/cesi/josef_novak.htm http://www.wwiaviation.com/popup/Oeffag-DIII-Ba-53-Flik-41J-sn-53-60.html More photos of 53.60 can be found on page 18 of the JaPo book, together with a nice side photo of 53.57 Do note that there is a low contrast between green and yellow, and the sworls are uneven in size, shape and opacity.
