falcon012
Developed from the A-6 Intruder, the EA-6B Prowler is a tactical electronic warfare aircraft designed to jam enemy radar systems. The Prowler is highly effective at its job. Since its introduction in 1971 the Prowler has fought in Vietnam, The Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom among others. The Prowler works by detecting enemy radar signals and then emitting electronic counter measures on the same frequency thereby blinding the enemy. Continually upgraded throughout its service life, the Prowler can also carry the AGM-88 High Speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM). This weapon gives the Prowler the capability to strike the radar installations it detects. The EA-6B Prowler is so effective at its job that no aviator wants to fly over hostile territory without a Prowler to provide the electronic shield. It has been reported that the Prowler has been used effectively in Afghanistan to jam electronic devices used to remotely detonate improvised explosive devices.
