So here is my new ship, the topic lines say it all. I have most of the hull painted, just need to do the boot line. When I painted the hull, I preshaded some random shapes with black, the painted the anti fouling with Mam British Chrimson, so there would be darker patches to give the impression of hull upkeep....I think it ended up looking good. I've also started cleaning off some of the raised detail to allow for the wood decking to be installed.

The wood planking is in place in the fantail. I also got the boot line painted. This is all I am going to do for now, I'm going out of town for two weeks tomorrow and don't want to leave something small half done.

Well, I'm back to working on the Spee again after some time away from home. As you can see, I've attached the Eagle on the stern.

The rest of the work I've done today isn't quite picture ready yet, I have a few pieces to spray with dullcoat, but I'm waiting until tomorrow so I can shoot a few other projects at the same time. Tomorrow ill be installing the midships deck, and start adding the PE to the stern along with the torpedo batteries, anchor chains and the like.

This is a wonderful kit, and full of all the goodies you need to make a gem. I had a productive, I've gotten all the railings put on the stern, in fact, there are only 3 more PE bits that need to go on, paint the torpedo tubes, and make the hoses for the reels and the stern is done. As you can see, I've gotten the first levels of the superstructures put together, I'll be painting those in the next day or two, then once they are attached, I'll be installing the rails and all the PE on the bow and amidships. That will reduce the risk of bending something or knocking it off. The wood decks on the superstructure are just dry fit for now.

The first level of the superstructure is done and glued down, in a little bit ill be painting the large PE pieces that go around the seaplane launcher and the funnel amidships, and that will be the last ill be doing on the superstructure for now. My focus will be going towards finishing the hull, putting all the PE bits on the main deck, anchor chains and railings, then I'll be working my way up.

They are very nice, and go down very easy. So I've gotten the large pieces of PE painted schwarzgrau and glued down. Now I can move on to the railings and all the detail bits for the main deck. I've also painted and installed the ships crest on the bow, I think I could have done a crisper job painting them, but they look ok.

This is my Friday, so I should be able to get a bunch done over the weekend.

Thanks for looking!

crap!!! I just noticed that starboard ladder is crooked, and the top step isn't folded all the way. Guess I have to pop it off and fix it.

Thanks guys! Those chains really do make the bow pop. I have a few more PE bits to add to the bow, and the last set of of railings and I can start working up to the second level of the superstructure. Actually I think I am going to build the funnel first. I'll be getting on-line and buying a set of seamaster 20mm Oerlikons to replace the kits guns, they are very toy like. With all of the extras this kit came with, I dont know why they just didnt throw those in too, but oh well. More to come later!

So it's been a little bit since an update, but I've gotten a little done along with some other projects. I have made the aft two fire hose reels....I'm not happy with the outcome, but that is a new technique for me, so it's a learning process.

So I've finally been able to get back to this project, at least for a little while. I've gotten a good start on the funnel and the forward superstructure.

Thanks, since those photos I've just about finished the funnel, all the rails are straightend out, the curved ones in the back are on. All I have to do is paint the cap black and install it, then wait on some Oerlikons I've ordered. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. I think we're 2 of maybe 5 ship modellers on ARC!

The funnel is finished, minus the Oerlikons I can't seem to find in stock anywhere. After looking at really good reference book I have for the Spee, I think the mast should be about a quarter inch taller, and if I had noticed that beforehand I would have scratch built my own, but oh well, no one will probably ever notice besides me, and I'm happy with it. Academy left of the upper yard on the mast, so I did make one, as well as the supports for the lower yard from copper wire. I was going to start the Graf Spees distinctive pagoda superstructure next, but decided to make the aircraft catapult instead to knock a large chunk of PE out. Im overall happy with the way it turned out, dispute the instructions being a little confusing. I need to do some touch up to fix some scratched off paint. Tomorrow I'm going to make the AR-196.
