Lodewijk
What are the mixing ratios of Tamiya Clear and Tamiya Flat base to produce a satin finish and to produce a flat finish? I am not looking for the ratios of Tamiya Flat Base and Future.
Crazy Snap Captain
Trial and error dude, but I ususally go for a flat finish and do approximately 5:2 (clear:flat base) from memory and then thin appropriately.
Triarius
Don't use Tamiya clear any more, but IIRC, the ratios should be approximately the same as for Future. Use those as a starting point.
a4s4eva
Just buy Tamiya Flat already mixrd (XF86). The flat base is awful
Mike C
Haven't done this for quite a long time, since I discovered pre-mixed flat clear from Gunze Aqueous Hobby (for some reason, there's no Tamiya flat clear in my LHS). Looking at Gunze's flat clear bottle, the ratio appears to be 4:1 or 5:1 for flat clear, so for satin you'd have to use much more gloss clear (something like 8:1?). EDIT: BTW, there's another alternative... LifeColor Satin Clear. It's pretty good. Edited July 4, 2013 by Mike C
Crazy Snap Captain
I have found both satin and flat (ready made) by Tamiya at my LHS only yesterday . Must've come in on a recent shipment. I've stocked up!
