The 1/48th scale Kfir Showdown

Recommended Posts

Very nice work on those 'pits' Algore, and thanks for your reply to my question about their size-accuracy.

Personally, I'm more into the Kinetic Kit but, I would like to see somebody offering an aftermarket cockpit though!

Keep up the good work!!!!

Sernak

You´re welcome :D

I wouldn´t mind that either...

After a days rest from the kits I set out to do some construction today :D

First I puttied the middle seam on both kits....suppose that´s more to do with the builder than the kits them selfs :P

One little comment tho, I don´t really like the IP shroud on the KInetic kit...would have been smarter to have it as a separate piece as in the AMK kit.

Put the air inlets in place on the Kinetic kit.....looks like a decent fit :D

IMG_0680_zps396d62bf.jpg

For the AMK kit you have to put together the MLG wells as they are made out of 4 separate pieces....makes for great details but it´s a bit fiddley, I suppose it´s a question of taste :D

IMG_0682_zpsde3b9c0b.jpg

Well I think this picture speaks for it self..... The kinetic wings needed a bit of convincing, you don´t really need the clamps but they do help! While the AMK wings were a drop fit.

IMG_0683_zps3c486eaf.jpg

As I´ve come to expect from the AMK kit, the fit of the wing to the fuselage was pretty much perfect!

IMG_0685_zpsf4439a18.jpg

IMG_0686_zps40e1a0c3.jpg

But the Kinetic wasn´t far behind, excellent fit in both kits!

Oki, now for some sanding before construction continues!

Cheers!

looks good so far.Inspired by your double build I ordered my self one in 72 :D/>

LOL, yer so impressionable :P

Oh, the old times, when i snapped my KFIR togerther from an 1/72 italeri kit as a child. :wub:/>

I remebered when I was a kid and found the F-21 at the locals toy shop, couldn´t believe my eyes that the Americans had a Mirage look-alike in their inventory!

I had never heard of agressor squadrons back then :P

On with the Kfirs!

Today I got to see the dark side of the AMK Kfir!

Ugh, do you kiss mommy with those intake lips?

IMG_0690_zps7425a077.jpg

AMK put the bulge at the rear as a separate piece...and the fit is bad.

IMG_0692_zpsa513789d.jpg

Had to use a clamp to make the rear facing camera align to the fuselage.

IMG_0693_zps15ee1f31.jpg

On the Kinetic the fit was better and I think it´s an over all better sollution.

IMG_0699_zpscea576f7.jpg

It got better towards the front tho....this , what ever it is, was a drop fit!

IMG_0691_zpsc5082cfd.jpg

The fit was equally good on the Kinetic...

IMG_0701_zps85d78b15.jpg

The nosecone is slightly smaller than the fuselage in diameter...

IMG_0697_zpsc33c4fc7.jpg

And on the kinetic it´s alightly bigger than the diameter of the fuselage :P

IMG_0702_zps9a95bcc2.jpg

I took too many pics so this is a two parter.

awesome stuff as usual Janne.

you are a master

Thanx Dylan :D

Nah, dunno about master ...

Is it just me or does the kinetic wings have curve to them?

LOL it´s just you,

I think it´s an illusion of the photo..I´ve been turning and oogling the kinetic kit and the only curve I found was the warping of the tailfin :P

Janne you're really helping so many of us! I don't know how many modellers will follow this topic in the years to come, but sincerely it will become an one stop reference regarding what Kfir to buy! Marvellous work!

Please, if I can ask: In the images it is visible some indents and some thin putty lines around the bottom nose of the AMK Kfir. The Kinetic kit seems much cleaner. If I can ask, and speaking about your own experience, how would you compare the fit of both models? Thanks!

And is it me or are the trailing edge movable surfaces dimensionally slightly different? At least the AMK seems to be fixed and Kinetic can be dropped. Many photographs show the real Kfir with a slight drop when parked in the tarmac.

Food to talk :D
