serendip
I'm planning to do the HobbyBoss F-14A in the colors of VF-111. Does anyone know and have any information on as to whether these ever carried the Navy gray and white scheme or did they have the overall gray only? Any help help would be much appreciated. Andre
I think that when VF-111 started flying the F-14A the allover Light Gull Gray scheme was pretty much standard. HTH, Andre
serendip
OK Andre, I hope you're wrong but I think you're right. I haven't been able to find any pctures in gray over white. Prettig weekend. Marc.
Netz
Same here. you'd think that in 1978 they would still have the 2 tone Grey over White, but no luck on finding any photo's. Curt
sundowner
The SunDowners received their F-14A's in 1978 , in June 1978 they received the first one; 160666 , all their F-14's were delivered right from Grumman in the Overall gull grey scheme . Henk
Darren Roberts
The Gull Gray/White scheme started changing to overall Gull Gray about 1977 or so. If you watch The Final Countdown, VF-41 has already gone to overall Gull Gray with lo-vis markings, and VF-84 has painted all the white moving surfaces Gull Gray. Both -51 and -111 had their Tomcats delivered in overall Gull Gray. Other squadrons that never saw white undersides were -11, -21, -31, -33, -74, -103, -191, -194, -201, -202, -301, and -302. fulcrum1
Speaking of Sundowners, which red is correct? I've seen pictures of tails that sometimes look dark and sometimes light. I have both the Superscale and Zotz Miss Molly decals and one appears to be closer to orange while the other is a darker red.
