kellyF15
Ok, this is probably strange, but I am moving off base as I am out of the air force soon, so im looking at some permanant display space for my models. In the process of packing, we decided to get rid of an old tall book shelf, but the square shelf inserts are nice enough to use as a display base for my 1/48 scale A-4's F-8's and A-1's. I am going to keep them separate, but I am going to paint them where I can put by each other in one continuous SCB-125 deck. Obviously it wont be the whole deck, but it will be 8 to ten pieces, and I would like the markings to be in scale, I was thinking about maybe the fantail area of the deck. But I cant find any drawings that have the flight deck dimensions for the different areas, just the total length and the todal width of the flight deck. Anyone know where I can find this? Thanks Kelly Couldnt post on modelwarships forum for some reason. Think the site is down.....
kellyF15
I mean it wouldnt have to be perfect, but it would be easy to move around in sections. I just need dimensions so I can get the angle of the landing deck right, and the rest of the markings to scale. I just did a quickie on one of the pieces and stuck it with the unpainted parts for a test picture. thoughts?
Rex
go to Floating Drydock My link click on "CVA,CVN Flight Deck Marking Plans" on the list use CVA-19 or similar, most of the Essex class on that list are sold as CVS
andrew.deboer
If you're just looking for a macro scale layout without getting too granular, you could use Google Earth or Bing Maps to get an overhead view of Yorktown or Hornet.
Rex
if those two are painted up as accurate museum ships,,,,,,,,,those CVS deck markings won't match a CVA that would have carried the Crusader 27A CVS (and 27C CVS) had different deck markings than 27C CVA (also different than the 27A CVA from before the Crusader days)
Yuri61
Here's a good photo of the Hanna in port with no aircraft onboard. I hope this helps you out.Fligh deck markings appear the same as Midway's which are the current standard. Edited August 13, 2013 by Yuri61
Finn
If want to do the USS Midway, here is a top view: http://jwstephens.com/images/uss-midway-san-diego.JPG it's the museum version but it gives you an idea of the markings. For dimensions, just find out the wingspan of a Tracker or other a/c on the deck to give you a scale and measure from there. Jari
Rex
If it helps you any, in addition to the photos above, you could PM me your address and I can send you a spare set of Saratoga instructions, they include a deck decal placement guide that includes the landing area, and the red and white Foul Lines, etc
kellyF15
Thanks guys, Obviously I have just done it up quickly, after I move next week and get settles, I would like to paint it better and detail it up a little bit, But I have 8 more of these shelf inserts, so this might get out of hand lol. Here is a little more to it. When im done it will just have F-8s and A-4s most likely.
