Glue that can hold lead shot...

Recommended Posts

Chaps,

Just finished an A-10 and the bugger is a tail sitter. I plan on drilling the nose cone, chucking in some lead shot and gluing/epoxying the stuff together. Not sure what glue to use that won't melt or distort the kit plastic. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

2-part epoxy putty has almsot no residual heat and is permanent - aka Plumbers Putty (dirt cheap)

EDIT: this would be for use during construction, not after - my error in posting.

I had this problem on a model I just finished. It originally wasn't a tail sitter but after I added a resin exhaust it became one. What I was able to do was to mix up some steel birdshot with some white glue and make a slurry out of it. Then, picking the shot out with tweezers I dropped the individual shot BBs into the nose through a space behind the rudder pedals.

I don't know if you have any openings that you could attempt this from but it worked very well for me. Beware, though, that it takes a very long time to set. I left mine for about 4 days to be safe.

Many thanks for the suggestions lads. Worked a treat. Tail sitting terminated.

O ye of little faith :D I used the method that Fly-n-hi described with the lead shot and white glue. I actually found a gap in the front landing gear where I could feed in the lead shot after I had mixed it with the white glue. Took about 20 or so pellets. Here's the ingredients...

Here is the gap in the front landing gear where the pellets were fed in. You can just make out some of the lead shot...

And the finished hog (not tail sitting thank God).

All in all a painful kinda build, but will definately be doing another one using the lessons learnt (and some AM).
