FluffyK
Excellent work. I'm working on one right now, and the fit is challenging, to say the least.
bashace
Excellent work. I'm working on one right now, and the fit is challenging, to say the least. Thanks Fluffy, Don't let the fit issues discourage you, just fit the intake ring as centered as you can so that when you use putty around it it doesn't look offset when finished. I had to shave the wing slots and mounting tabs as well as the angled portion at the root of the leading edge to get the wings to mount flush with fuselage. It has great lines once you're past all that. V/r Ron
bashace
Started fiddleing with the landing gear, always hate this part of a build.

swbailey
Looking good! From your photos, it looks like a kit that I should pick up one of these days.
bashace
Looking good! From your photos, it looks like a kit that I should pick up one of these days. I don't know of a better 1/48 Mig-17F kit out there despite it's minor flaws. V/r Ron Edited December 27, 2013 by bashace
bashace
In the Future stage, should be ready to decal soon. The next time pics get posted it will be the finished aircraft.
FluffyK
Looking good! I'd love to see some of the pics you used as reference. I found some b/w ones taken (I think) by the SAAF when Adriano Bomba defected, but color would be very useful.
bashace
Thanks Fluffyk, The pics are quite elusive for this subject, Gregair emailed me some that helped alot, but they didn't show everything. The news article from the defection story stated the aircraft was in impecable condition with the exception of the tires, so that killed off any major weathering tasks that may have been needed. During the time of the defection the aircraft had painted wing tanks, Clavework Graphics has a color drawing of this aircraft with Aluminum colored wing tanks on it, which is the route I took to give it a little color differential. FluffyK
That's really interesting, Ron. Here are the images I found on the net: My link My link My link From the little I can see of the plane, it looks like painting the tanks may not be necessary.
bashace
Yup, I got all those pics, the color ones I got from Gregair showed the tanks were painted same color as aircraft (boring), according to some other references, they were also configured to carry rocket pods. v/R Ron My link
bashace
And the biggest letdown, this particular aircraft didn't have the afterburner, it was an early Mig-17, so my build isn't 100% accurate V/r Ron

Maybe it's an "F" that had an earlier seat retrofitted, for some reason?
bashace
Well, construction wise she's finish, just doing some final tidbits. V/r Ron Edited December 31, 2013 by bashace
swbailey
Looks sharp! I'd seen pictures of this aircraft and it always looked so neat in it's overall light blue color.
FluffyK
Ooooh, nice one, Ron! Looks like I pictured her, well maintained and pretty.
bashace
Took advantage of the natural sunlight this AM and snapped a shot to show her true color.
gregair
Excellent job there, a great looking Mig-17 well done. I have seen 3-4 of these in Beira, Mozambique in 2000 but they were derelict and very faded by then.
bashace
Thanks Gregair, there's still a couple things I'm not happy with that I may try to touch up before shooting new pics of her. V/r Ron
