Zvezda Su-27 on its way

Recommended Posts

I have to express my gratitude :worship:/>/> to the Zvezda company for having invited Ken "Flankerman" and me to the company grounds last week. And having shown the developments on the new kits including the amazing Su-27 which is on its way!!! We will still have to waite a few months but it will be out this year and the details on it a really great!!!

I can say that metal has been cut and some of the press forms are starting to take shape, while others are still just blocks of steel and the parts are hidden in them waiting to be let free by the hi-tech machining tools.

Once again Zvezda thank you for letting us see the design, the production and the very friendly and dedicated team of Zvezda specialists!!! :thumbsup:/>/> :thumbsup:/>/> :thumbsup:/>/>

More soon.

Best regards

Gabor

I guess they showed CAD's with full detail like panellines and so on? So far they have only shown "bare bones" (basic shape, little surface detail) for us other mortals.

Yes, Ken was speechless when he saw the CAD images and it was a great pleasure to meet with Aleksey the chief designer of the Su-27 kit. He is a real professional with love for aviation, knowledge of the subject as well as the ability to put it all into a 3D model in the CAD. Last but not least a great person! It was a real pleasure to meet him and see his side of work. Now it is all up to the tooling department to make the forms, and I can say they have the means to do so. And then it will be time for plastic and a brand new production hall for the injection moulding machines is ready and waiting.

Having seen other kit companies have to say that the whole kit production at Zvezda is up to the highest standard available today! Those who have seen the level of the Mi-24 kit or others Zvezda products from recent batches can have an imagination what can one expect from the Su-27 kit.

The Su-2 has been "on its way" since November 2011 when it was scheduled to be released. Zvezda doesn't have scale models as a priority product anymore, they make a fortune on board games and movies related stuff.

Yes, they do that too, to make a working, profitable business, to provide jobs to their workers and to be able to produce kits for the modellers. During our visit they were packing the planes for the WaltDisney Planes (is this the English name for the film?).

When back home I will be able to show you photos of the press forms for the Su-2. Time is a relative thing, have a look at Eduards MiG-15, and some promised kits from other companies!

All production is automated at Zvezda and they are working flat out on new projects as well as adding a brand new injection moulding facility to production. If they do board games, movie related stuff on the way and at the same time produce kits of the Mi-24 Hind or the La-5FN quality I dont really care about the additional products they have!!!

Gabor, could you comment on that?

Hi Berkut,

Yes, it was all there on the screen. We were allowed to make photos of it, as I said when I am home will be able to post some photos, only if Flankerman will not post them first.

As far as I understand all the design is complete and now work is on for the making of the press forms. Some of the canopy forms were already made. All the machining equipment was working flat out when we were there. They are all automated and working 24 hours.

As written before, if it is anything (and why shouldnt it be)to the standard of kits like the Mi-24 then it will be the best and most accurate kit of the Flanker on the market.

Fortunately the Zvezda people were very open and helpful so there was no spying of any form. It was a very interesting visit!!! I know that Ken has given his OK when he seen the comp plans so the kit should be OK.

I have to thank Zvezda again for the possiblity for the visit!

Gabor did You arrive home safely? :woot.gif:/>/> :woot.gif:/>/>

Hi Mario,

Sorry, I am still here in Moscow and will remain till next week. Museums, museums every day. Today it was the Zadorzhnuy museum. It is fascinating, but would recomend to anyone wishing to visit it to go as soon as possible. From the center of the city you can get there in 1 hour with public transport.

They plan to divide the civil / car section and have separately the military at the new location where the big birds were taken.

Have to say that the Yak-38 looks amazing with completely striped down paint, it has been painted with clear varnish to protect it and looks stunning in sunlight.

For me the biggest find in a Zadorojniy museum in this visit - Yak-1, lifted from a bottom of the lake and restored, but partially without a covering.

Yes, it is beautiful. I have spent almost an hour around it. Spoke to the restorer and it should be ready by the end of the year. One side will remain in the striped down form. It is fascinating that most of the wooden spars are still the original, they did not root at all those years under water. I think by now Zadorozhnuy has the most original Yaks anywhere in the world. And this includes the early (and late) jets too.

Best regards

Gabor
