Bigasshammm
Here's what my main focus will be. My first 1/12 car kit ever so it should be fun. Will be straight oob probably. I'm tossing around the idea in my head of getting a pe it of there is one. Also not sure about kit decals. Trying I finish a few things before I start it. Plus need to get the blue paint. Jake Kilshaw
I'm looking forward to seeing this model! Who were the drivers for it?

Ianm
Nice, I must get hold of a 1/12, but for now I must work through my 1/20 collection I guess! I don't see many people making this particular kit!
Bigasshammm
Not much progress. I've completed 2 wheels n tires and most of the air box an that's about it. The nose is together but needs some sanding. What I am finding is with the age of this kit the plastic is very brittle. Two main body piece have split and been glued together. Adds unnecessary sanding but what to do? Ill start on the engine here soon.

I can imagine any early or initial releases may be a bit brittle, they must be over 30+ years. Looking forward to another 1/12 scale Tamiya racer build. Don
Bigasshammm
Been neglecting updating this. I've started working on it more and more lately. This is the original release and the plastic is very old and brittle. It's cracked on me a few times already and made me leery about it. Glued some small bits together and started on the engine yesterday. Mockup. Engine and gearbox have been painted and attached to each other. More mockup One of the completed wheels. Painted the tire with a toothpick and the wheels were painted semi gloss black. The instructions say flat black but no.

Bigasshammm
Slowly working. Spent two days getting the exhaust together. Not as much of a nightmare as the 1/20 DFV kits but still diddly. Putting together various engine bits and suspension parts. I'm searching for some really good detailed pics of this car before I can really tackle painting anything. That instructions are no help. Bigasshammm
More work... Fit the rear rotors and brakes. I scratched up the rotor faces to make them look worn a little. Dry fitting the exhaust. Something's off still it's a bit twisted. Hate the DFV exhausts.
dmthamade
Yup!! Those exhaust pipes were a little "fun" to do. One of those tasks you need three hands to accomplish. Great progress, Big. Don
Bigasshammm
Added some bits and bobs to the engine. I painted the valve covers last night and they'll be going on today. Redoing all the chrome is a serious pita.

Netz
Are those exhausts in the kit? I'm not familiar with the term DFV. Curt
Bigasshammm
DFV is a name for the engine. The Ford Cosworth DFV. Most all of the exhausts were designed the same way. The exhaust pictured are what's included in the kit. They come in 6 pieces per side and then the tips are a single piece. http://www.historicengines.com/dfv/specs.html
Bigasshammm
Got the base layer of paint on the exhausts. Again dry fit for these pics. More work has continued on the engine as you can see. Next up is starting the ignition wires and finishing the exhausts. For the main pipes I'm going to dust on some rust and silver from Tamiya watering sets. Not sure what I'm going to do about the tips. I'm torn on chroming them or leaving them like the rest of the exhaust.
Bigasshammm
Still more engine work. Almost finished. Exhausts now permanent. As is the ignition and fuel lines. Also attached the velocity stacks. Once everything is good and solid ill attach the fuel and ignition lines. I still need to paint the ecu and attach it though. Also need to attach the exhaust tips. They're slightly warped so there's an issue but I think with glue they should hold out. They could have boxed this engine as a separate kit and made a killing.
Bigasshammm
Work progresses on the rear suspension. I kind of screwed up the shocks but they're serviceable. May need to touch up some paint. Work goes slowly with removing parts, sanding, painting, then painting again everything. And with a "little" project I started a week and a half ago or so. At this rate I'll have the little project done far sooner than this big one. Still should make the GB deadline though. K
dmthamade
The engine/drivetrain assembly looks great, Big!!! They really are a complex subassembly. I like that careful painting and assembly gets you great results. Don
Bigasshammm
Ok I think I'm finally done with the engine and rear suspension. Have I mentioned this is an old boxing of VERY old plastic? I broke the rear wing support three times. Painted the whole assembly twice. Now finally it is on and I think it's done. Time will tell as I work on other things if I add some more lines. Most notable the lines into and out of the radiators. It doesn't seem the kit supplies any but there are holes so it may be later. Most of the bling is Alclad chrome. I did the radiators in airframe aluminum brushed with Tamiya silver weathering makeup. Anyway on to the pics. Now onto the body and front suspension which I've been putting off. dmthamade
Looks great, big!! What color did you use on the exhaust? Don
Bigasshammm
The pipes were just sprayed flat black then rubbed with Tamiya weathering powders silver, rust, and a blue. The tips were stripped. Painted gloss black. Then Alclad steel on the tips and chrome on the supports. Then I used two strips of bare metal foil as fasteners to the supports. The tips go from the bmf strips out so there's some differentiate between them and the main pipes. I was happy with it. As a build update I've been slowly getting the body ready for paint. The nose and top of the body have been primered. Rear wing is together and ready for primer and I've attached a few things to the main Boyd shell and just need to sand it before it'll be ready to primer. Then I'll get everything painted with the zero paints Tyrrell blue I have. I received my Indycals sheet yesterday so that's ready to go. Pics later today.
Bigasshammm
Pbucket changed it's app. Hopefully these work. Just went down and took a couple mock up pics. Size comparison with my other project. Seems links work but now they take you to the page if you click them. Sorry if that's an inconvenience. Bigasshammm
I'm still here but have had literally no time to work on anything. I got a few hours the other day and went down to spray the body. Noticed a few spots I needed to fill and then noticed the body cracked AGAIN! SO I dealt with those issues and still need to sand it and paint. Maybe MAYBE this weekend. Christmas and my job don't get along very well. Plus I think I'm getting sick. Alas. Keep at it though guys!
